Page 20 - shelby shopper & info - 704/484-1047 www.shelbyinfo.com Thursday, February 24-March 2, 2011 Bruce Camp’s KOSA Local FISHING FISHING REPOR REPORT Outdoor Connection Outdoor Truths ...get out & enjoy nature! By Gary Miller By The retirees finally had a decent day for fishing last week. When tournament Director John Black called, his first words were,” We finally got to go fishing”. The old-timers were on Lake Wylie. John Black and Roger McNeilly picked up the win with 10.60 and anchored that with the big bass of the day, a 3.25 largemouth.. Mack Wyatt and Johnny Christainberry had 9.90 and were second with Tom Mayhew and John Rankin getting third with 9.55. This week the retirees will fish Lake Norman. All indications are the weather will cooper- ate again this week. CCBC The Cleveland County Bass Club fished their first event on the 2011 season on Lake Wylie recently. Tom Mayhew (the only angler to bring in a limit) took top honors with 11.82. Butch Phillips followed with 9.08, close behind was Larry Melton with 8.84. John Rankin had 6.38 and took fourth and rounding out the top five was Chuck Camp with 5.22. Mayhew had big bass of the day with a 3.74 largemouth. The CCBC will fish Lake Norman in March on a date yet to be determined. Moss Arnold Ledford says it appears the weekly Thursday night tournaments on Moss Lake will start up on March 17. Events run from 6pm til 9:30 pm with a $30 entry fee, and that does include big fish. One of the best all- around combinations is a 6 ft., light- or medium-action spinning rod with an open- face reel balanced to the rod. When you shop for outfits like this, select a reel that comes with a spare line spool. Fill one spool with 6 lb. test, the other with 8 lb. test. When choosing line, look for thin line that is fairly limp. Although this kind of line may not transmit strikes as well as stiffer lines, it allows you to cast farther and present baits more naturally. And don’t forget to check and retie your knots often. On the last day of the month he bagged a nice eight pointer on a piece of property that had gone untended and had always been relegated as his least favorite and most undesirable. This normally would not mean very much except for the fact that he did the same thing the year be- fore. The other leases had been given better treatment. He had spent time on them. He had planted food plots and managed the property to hold deer throughout the year. This property just looked more capable and promising than the other. And after all, since the lease on the neglected property was cheaper, it couldn’t be as good as the more expensive ones. Could it? With a two year success rate, my friend is beginning to rethink the worth of that which seems unlikely. As I listened to his story, I was im- mediately reminded how this same sce- nario is played out in many different ar- eas of our life. We simply overlook that which seems unlikely. When it comes to possessions, this may not be a big deal, but when it comes to people it is everything. ...get out & enjoy nature! Gary Miller Aiming Outdoorsmen Aiming Outdoorsmen Toward Christ oward Christ Let me ask it plain and sim- ple... Who are you overlooking because they seem too unlikely or too convenient? Whose work are you ignoring because it may not be in the forefront or exotic enough? Who have you bypassed in order to get to someone who has great references and resumes? Whose results have you ignored because those results did not come from a more polished business or ministry model? Who have you walked past in order to get to someone who lives in another city or country? I’ve noticed in the church world that we will send mission teams to an- other state and a church in that state will send their team to us. Could it be we are overlooking the obvious for the ornamental? Could it be that we have spent too much time and money on that which looks good and have neglected that which is the most productive? May- be we need to do like my friend and re- think where we are spending our time and money. Maybe our most productive places and people are those that God puts us around everyday. www outdoortruths.or www..outdoortruths.org ©CommunityFirstMedia ©CommunityFirstMedia ©CommunityFirstMedia Call ESTIM TES ESTIMATES FREE FREE
