Sports Taylor Ngyuen Staff Writer For two years in a row, one point defined the outcome of the game against West Valley. One point….that's one free throw, or a half of a bucket. The Red Bluff Spartans lost a recent game against West Valley by a half of a bucket. Last year's game against West Valley also resulted in a one point loss. It goes without saying, that both teams are ready for a hard fought win. According to Matthew Fox, prior to the game, they were working on defense and running offense well in practice. He said that West Valley is very good at the inside game, where most of their points originate. Despite West Valley's strong inside presence, Fox believes they will win. Fox also said that it will take a full team effort in order to win the game. Wyatt Clement's reason for their one point loss was no energy in the first half; however, they picked it up in the second. Clement said, "After the game, we realized we need to Both girls varsity and JV soccer teams prep for tonight's away game at Shasta High School start and end games with intensity." He said the reason why they had a "comeback" was because the entire team was all scoring and playing in sync. Fox said that his goal for this season is to "win section." Their next game is away against Enterprise. Because their record against Enterprise is 1-0, they plan another win, according to Clement, but Fox said it was a "weakened" team because of missing players do to football. Fox and Brandon Luckow said that in practice they are running a lot in preparation for the big game. They are also working on their press break. Fox said he plans to "shoot well and be smart." He also said that Enterprise has a great full court press which might cause trouble on the scoreboard. Luckow said in order to win, they will go "beast mode" and Fox said they need to take care of the ball. When asked who will help their team win the game, Fox said, "Everyone, it will take a team effort." Luckow said, "We will equally do well, and we will take care of the ball." V basketball plays tonight's game at Enterprise Red Bluff's Spartans varsity soccer girls have been keeping their positive attitude towards this year's season despite their losses. The girls believe that it'll benefit them if they don't get down on themselves and just keep striving to improve. The varsity girls have been faced many obstacles, yet they still strive to overcome them. During the beginning of the season, they lost many players, thus throwing them off course. Despite the challenge of people leaving, the team still continues to bond and become closer. To do so, the team has their annual breakfast outings. The girls are very supportive to each other. They motivate one another to become a better player and teammate. They believe it's important to do anything they can to better one another. The training has become more hard- core for the girls to improve themselves not only as individu- als but as team as well such as workout routines led by junior Jordan Vasquez. The girls' optimistic attitude and devotion to the team will benefit them into improving for the rest of the season. "This is my sport, and I love it. I love the adrenaline it gives me," said sophomore Shelby Baccala The JV girls soccer team has had challenging and memorable times so far this season. As with any team at times they have a tendency to clash due to differ- ent personalities on the team. This season thus far has left lasting memories of playing in adverse weather and close games. Of course, as with any sport, most of their time is spent preparing for game day by long hours of practice. In a sport that is competitive personalities can get in the way of the overall goal of the team. Like any family the JV girl's soccer team is able to overcome their differences and strive to- wards the common goal of win- ning. One memorable game was when they played in the snow against Shasta. "I never realized how fast the ball will move in the snow." Paige Smith, sopho- more. The team practices hard dur- ing the week; however, the day before the game the team likes to take it easy to be well pre- pared for the next day's game. With hard practices and working together the team will continue to have a memorable season Lexi Pritchard Staff Writer Wrestling team has rough start with the beginning of league The wrestling team this year has had a rough start with two duel losses to Enterprise and Shasta, but moral is still high and this confident team has an optimistic outlook on the future that ceases to fade. The team this year has a lot of first time wrestlers but the general consensus is that their all quick learners that are motivated to end up being real competition thought the season. And the more seasoned and Savannah Sutliff Staff Writer BLUFFER/Kylee Bonds "After the game, we realized we need to start and end games with intensity." -Wyatt Clement Adam Swarthout Staff Writer experienced wrestlers having been busy getting into shape for a long time coming are excited and well prepared for the new challenges that this year is sure to bring. Junior and third year wrestler Katie Grissom is especially excited for the future and tells us,"We have a lot of first time wrestlers that are learning very fast and the coach this year is great". With the teamwork and motivation shown by the wrestling team this year, we can expect the team to gain success and stay positive no matter what the outcome of the season is when it's all said and done. The wrestling team has a dual with Shasta on the fifth of February at Six o'clock which gives them a chance to redeem themselves after the bitter loss against them on at their pervious dual. Nothing should get in the way of a successful year for the wrestling team and as long as they keep up their confidence and assurance we should all expect great things from them in the future.
