Page 5 January 31, 2014 A movie well worth your attention Arts and Entertainment word maybe is causing a rough start and blur to my purpose for writing this. However it seems as though what has become the normality for society and music is altering in a way it never has before. For the first time in what seems like forever, music simply is. We are fading out of the era of "popping bottles" and "getting turnt" and we are now rather celebrating differences, flaws and love. We are raising our glasses of forward thinking to the idea of now. Now we, we as a society, know that we have an opportunity to change the far more socially progressive than todays. This future also has darker implications too, we see in it a total dominance of our lives by technology. Even today, peoples lives clearly have been affected by their attachment to their electronics, and some would argue that they have, to some degree, isolated us from real human contact. "Her" shows us a future where these effects have been exacerbated by the continual growth of technology in our daily lives. Though I could technically say this is brought up in the main storyline in a sort of obscure way, I would be much more accurate to say that this, along with many other things, is mostly observable in the background of the film. This leads me to warn that, although I loved this movie, it isn't necessarily for anyone expecting to be spoon fed the story. I won't say the plot is hidden deeply, it's fairly understandable, but it does take a little thought. The implications of this story, however, might not necessarily sit well with everyone. Ultimately, this movie best suits an audience that wants to question typical views, or at least contemplate new ones. a person that doesn't like demanding games that you have to check up on constantly to succeed in because most of the game is waiting for characters to finish jobs and buildings to be built. That being said if your are a constant gamer you can get prizes by playing the game every day and at the end of five days of consecutive playing you get Mr. Burns mystery box which could contain anything from buildings and characters to cash and prizes. Overall this game is great time killer with a detailed stoyline and is more user friendly than most games of its kind because you can just come back to it at any time. When I first heard of "Her" the idea interested me and I was eager to see the film come out. I was also somewhat worried that the film could turn out to be a disappointment if I put too much faith in it, but I remained optimistic nonetheless. For once in a rare twist of life, it did actually live up to my expectations, and if I daresay, surpassed them. This film is one of the few that manages to be both intellectual and emotional while still having a few good comical breaks in the tension. For those of you who haven't heard of "Her" yet, the movie follows Theodore Twombly, played by Joaquin Phoenix, in the near future of LA as he develops a relationship with an artificially intelligent operating system, otherwise known by the more simple abbreviation "OS" (though Theodore's particular OS, the one most pertinent to the movie, names herself Samantha.) The movie then takes us through their ups and downs, allowing us to see not only the relationship grow, but to see it strain and struggle with all their obstacles and arguments. Phoenix does an excellent job portraying the complicated and somewhat nerdy character of Theodore Twombly throughout this film. Though a few too many close up shots world. In this award ceremony, the icons and groundbreakers meshed seamlessly with our modern day artists. Throughout the ages, music has represented society. From do-wops to hip hop, from heavy metal to grunge (and technically disco does exist somewhere in there…I guess) music moves with the people. Music now, is fearless as ever. The idea of being flawed, the idea of standing up for what you believe in, the idea that there is still ground to break was truly emphasized by this award show. Not only is there ground to break, we are in a strata layer filled, ice cream sweet movement. Life is in "mint" condition. Then we have delicious layers of fudge; fearless taste-testers who will shove the hard headed behemoths who will not budge on accepting that in this day: the human race can no longer be suppressed, in one way or another, our voices will be Grey Grotke A&E Editor Savanah Sutliff Staff Writer The Simpsons: Tapped Out is a fun, free game based on the well-known adult comedy cartoon The Simpsons. The story line of the game is that Springfield has been accidently blown up by the local nuclear power plant and it's your job as the gamer to rebuild Springfield and find all of its many colorful citizens. Throughout the game you build all of Springfield's local landmarks and receive rent from each building you construct, you can also send the characters on special jobs and receive Simpson's cash after each job is completed. You can use all the cash you receive to buy more landmarks, decorations and characters, the game also has the option of buying doughnuts through PayPal which you can use to get premium items that you could never get with regular Simpsons cash. The game also gets extra entertaining during the holidays by giving away tons of holiday themed prizes, o f f e r i n g decorations for the city and you can buy doughnut packages at a discounted price through the whole month the holiday falls on. This is a perfect game for $3 for a slice of pizza with a drink! Or only $5 for two slices with drink! Located: 734 Main St Red Bluff heard, and in many cases, they will be heard to a tune. So I am grateful to exist in an era, where music has fewer limits than ever, and represents society as much as ever. This one isn't worth bothering with If you missed this, you shouldn't next time. Technically speaking, it is unorthodox to do a review on an award ceremony. That said, the Grammys (which occurred last Sunday) seemed… different than in years past. Maybe it was the reunion of the two surviving Beatles. Maybe it was the fact that Daft Punk performed live for the second time in their careers on the Grammy stage. Maybe it was the fact that Black Sabbath won two awards, thus rekindling many of my childhood memories and fondness for Ozzy Osbourne. Maybe my overuse of the 'Ride Along' was neither an exciting action movie nor a hilarious comedy. The movie was described as a comedy in the previews and then twenty minutes into the movie it is all action and bad acting with undertones of what might be comedic but is really not funny. My opinion is that Kevin Hart is a very talented comedian but he is trying too hard to act in 'Ride Along.' Hart plays a man who is extremely in love with his girlfriend and wants her brother, played by Ice Cube, to give him a blessing so Hart can propose. For the entirety of the movie Hart acts like a dog trying to please his master in order to get a treat (the marriage proposal blessing). Hart does what he is told and waits where he is left just like a trained puppy would. The plot was to be expected and has a man trying to impress another man so that Hart can have respect. Hart and Ice Cube are purposely sent on fool errands because Ice Cube requested the 126 calls (the stupid and annoying ones that the cops never want) and of course there is a bad man who needs to be arrested and belongs in jail. No surprise there! The music was not to bad but it was definitely not great. The soundtrack was the midpoint of the good and bad of 'Ride Alone.' The highlight and overall best aspect of 'Ride Along' I think would have to have been the cinematography because the acting and comedy were far from the optimal motion-picture photography. 'Ride Along' was the first movie that Hart stars in and if the actor is enough to make you want to see the movie then by all means go and see the movie. I personally would not suggest 'Ride Along' and I strongly suggest seeing a different movie. Emotional and Intellectual, while still funny! of his face may have aided him in expressing Twombly. Scarlett Johansson, the voice actor for Sammantha, manages to convincingly convey her feelings through voice alone. Despite the heavy emphasis on their relationship, however, this is more than just a romance. As one would expect from a movie about someone falling in love with their phone, the movie makes many interesting philosophical and social points. Not only does the film show a very plausible seeming future in the technological sense, but it also designs a society that seems distinctly different from our own yet not at all unreasonably so. The audience sees a future that has been deeply impacted by social movements, one that seems Topics Editor Becca Blanchard Grammy Awards show us the music industry is as fearless as ever 'Ride Along' disappoints Singing Valentines!
