When asked what she believed was the team's strongest aspect as a whole, Scholzen said, "We are very strong defense players." You only think about the game. You don't think about homework or school or anything else." Bluffer/ Lexi Pritchard Red Bluff High's Caitlyn Igarta, sophomore on the JV team warming up before the game. Lexi Pritchard Staff Writer Red Bluff High School's JV girl's basketball team is hard at work preparing for their upcoming season starting January 23 and is getting ready by competing in tournaments until the league officially starts. During this preseason the JV girls have competed in three tournaments, bringing home two second place trophies, as well as one third place trophy. Adding up all of these tournament wins and losses makes the team 7-4. Their next game this preseason is on Monday at Los Plumas at 6 o'clock. During the games the girls have an average of 45 points, and have a free throw average of fifty percent. According to some of the team members, the teams strengths are that they are all able to work extremely well together, they have good ball movement, and work really hard during every game. Some of the team's disadvantages are that they don't have that much height compared to all the other teams they play and have trouble boxing out when a shot is taken. The team's hope for the league is to be undefeated, and to continue to work extremely hard. Their first game is on January 23 against West Valley at Red Bluff.   "I have high hopes for league play, because we all really get along on and off the court," said Julia Brandt, Freshman. JV soccer continuing to improve their teamwork Taylor Nguyen Staff Writer Red Bluff High Spartans' JV girls' soccer team started the season with 2 wins, 3 losses, and one tie. The team, however, knows exactly what they need to work on to improve as a whole for upcoming games. The JV team's weakness is direct passing, which goes back to their lack of communication on the field. The team has been playing the sport together before this team, so they had already built a great connection that was inseparable. "The team has gotten a lot closer since we started; we get along great on and off the field," said freshman Alana Johnson. "The team is really starting to connect.  We can really count on each other, and I feel that's an important element to a great season," said freshman Brooke Brown. "At the beginning of the season, we started as individuals first.  However, as the season started to progress, we were acting like a puzzle.  Each and every one of us are the pieces, and we're all starting to mold together into the perfect fit," said sophomore Andrea Martinez. To prep for upcoming games, the girls like to give each other pep talks to pump everyone up.  They all enjoy motivating everyone on the team to become better not only as individuals, but a team as a whole. "By the end of the season, we'll have a strong team," said sophomore Autumn Poole. Despite the fact that the team has had a rocky start, the girls will continue to inspire one another and attack their future games head on.  Their next game will be home on Wednesday Jan. 22 against Enterprise.
