With a recent upsetting loss to rival Corning High School 45-37, the team tries to reflect and grow upon the loss. "We were doing great the first three quarters then started to get sloppy in the fourth which ultimately killed us, we had a lot of turnovers really," said sophomore Lane Pritchard. "It didn't help we didn't get a lot of offensive rebounds in that game, we had some lazy shots and poor ball movement," said sophomore Bryce Sinclair. As of the fourteenth of January the jv boys will be playing Central Valley High School where the team feels they will perform well and get Courtesy/JavierVasquez Sophomore Loen Langley taking a free throw shot at a practice last Wednesday after coming off of a loss at Central Valley. the win. "C.V. should be a win for us, we played them before and won, we definitely have a height advantage over their team," said Pritchard. "It depends on how we play, if we play like how we did against corning then I don't really see us getting the win, but if we step up when needed and approach the game confidently we will win for sure," said Sinclair. With these factors that the team faces, some players have commented saying that the team is doing pretty well, and that they work well with each other. "We are a good team, we keep up with the other teams we play, losses are never usually by a large margin," said Sinclair. As league approaches the stakes get higher and the competition gets tougher, when asked about their league goals it was pretty similar. "Not coming in last would be nice, I'd like to beat West Valley though, we are a pretty equally matched team and the first time we played them we lost so it would be a good redemption game," said Sinclair. "Definitely be top 3 league this year," said Pritchard. Taylor Nyguen Staff Writer The boys' soccer team at Red Bluff High started off the season with a bang. So far, they have had 5 wins and 3 losses. He said, "after a loss, we need to work on not being so down on ourselves." It was said that the boys' have a great offence, backfield defense, passing, and just a great team in general. They players are loyal, and they have great endurance. The team has gotten closer since the start of the season as well. We put 'sectionals' in our minds to motivate us to go hard or go home." The team also likes to run through warm-ups and pump each other up. According to Bronze, the team always excels in motivating each other to become not only the best player, but the best teammate to their ability. They all give 110 percent in everything. Alpine team preparing for upcoming races this season Lexi Pritchard Staff Writer Red Bluff High School's Alpine team has been working hard to prepare for their upcoming races at Mount Shasta. The team faces many advantages and disadvantages during this season that will affect the outcome of their placing. Unfortunately, for the Alpine team, all of their races have been postponed until February 3 due to there not being any snow on Mount Shasta. The team which consists of ten skiers and fourteen snow boarders, is unable to ski or snowboard on the snow so far. The lack of snowfall doesn't stop them from preparing for when the snow falls on Mount Shasta. The team prepares by performing dry land practice techniques which is a mix of endurance and strength training. In order to be able to compete in the upcoming races the team has to do two actual snow practices at Mount Shasta. The type of races the team competes in is called Slalom and Giant Slalom courses. The differences between the two races are that a Giant Slalom is a longer course and the poles the racers ski and snowboard through are closer together. According to the coach, Mr. Treat and members of the team, they face many advantages and disadvantages during the season. One of the advantages Mr. Treat spoke about is that they have strong team spirit and the team is extremely unified. A disadvantage that the team faces is that they have new inexperienced alpine skiers and snow boarders. The team's biggest competitor throughout the year should be Shasta due to their many seasoned racers. The team's first race was supposed to be today but since there is no snow on Shasta it will be postponed until February 3rd. "Usually by this time we've had a minimum of six snow practices," said Bill Treat, Alpine Coach Spartan's Coach of the Issue Coach Stan Twitchell Varsity Basketball Coach Twitchell is leading the boys varsity basketball team and feels that the team is doing very well and that they are fun to be around. "We practice so hard that it makes the games seem easy," is a quote that he uses often. His end of the season goal is to continue to improve as a team and win their league and section.
