Arts and Entertainment Page 4 January 17, 2014 Walter Mitty's secrets revealed Savannah Sutlif Staff Writer 'The Secret Life of Walter Mitty' came out on December 25, 2013 is the film adaptation of James Thurber's classic short story written in 1939. Ben stiller plays Walter Mitty, a photo editor for LIFE magazine who loves to imagine that he has gone on the journeys in the photographs he edits rather than seeing them himself. When one day he is pushed into an adventure chasing famous photographer Sean O'Connell (Sean Penn) in order to retrieve the picture for the last cover of LIFE magazine and impress his coworker and love interest Cheryl (Kristen Wig). On this adventure he travels to Greenland and Iceland, fights a shark, jumps onto a helicopter, long boards, climbs one of the tallest mountains known to man and outruns a volcano eruption. All the excitement gives him a new outlook on life and helps him discover the importance of doing things in reality and not just in your imagination. This new attitude also gives Walter the courage to tell the Executives at LIFE magazine (which is about to be turned into a website that no longer needs most of its old employees) that it's the people in the company that matter and not the profit .The scenes of Walter going on adventures in his real life where beautifully filmed and perfectly scored and could be debatably called the best part of the movie because of the motivating and equally exciting experiences . That said, on the other hand, the scenes of Walters imagination were often misleading because you're not always sure when he's imagining something or if it's really happening, and were sometimes very odd and didn't seem to fit well with the rest of the movie. Another highlight of the movie, though, was the interaction of Walter and Cheryl which was always very sweet and seemingly natural the two actors were obviously very comfortable working together which mad their relationship smooth and easy to watch. Overall, the movie was fun, sweet and exciting with beautiful cinematography you just have to get past the large amounts odd scenes that take place in Walters' imagination. Exciting adventure/love movie of a man proving his worth Google images 'Sherlock' is full of witty and intelligent humor There are three seasons, or series, of the show so far, each totalling two episodes each, and although this may seem brief, the length of each episode makes up for the seasons' brevity. I recommend this show to those who have either previously enjoyed other formats of Sherlock's stories, like books or movies. This show would also be pleasant for those who are fascinated by the British culture, or who have watched other BBC Shows. The third season will be airing in the US on January 19 on PBS. Maggie Tallan Staff Writer In 2010, BBC1 released a TV series based on a classic literary character, Sherlock Holmes. The show, straightforwardly titled Sherlock, offers viewers with a variety of the classic story lines authored by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, cleverly designed in a modern setting, with no hesitance upon the inclusion of cell phones or computers. Created by Steven Moffat (creator of Doctor Who) and Mark Gatiss (writer and actor for Doctor Who), the show has gained millions of viewers around the world, appealing to fans in over 200 territories. The show was released on Netflix, a popular source for viewers to watch consecutive episodes in one sitting. Benedict Cumberbatch embodies a flawless adaption of Sherlock; he's quick, sharp, and brilliantly Google images cast, no other actor could pull it off as well. Martin Freeman epitomizes Dr. John Watson incredibly well, easily grasping his tolerating characteristics and his means of living with Sherlock. The episodes, totalling to about an hour and a half each, all present audiences with quick wit and compelling mysteries, leading to a nearly obsessive group of viewers that are undeniably hooked on the show. I found the show highly entertaining. Though each episode contains its own plot, they're all linked by common characters and an overall greater story line. The show itself is set in London, England, an enjoyably classic place where the original stories occur. The story lines themselves are bafflingly delightful, intricately woven to leave a viewer guessing until close to the end. The characters are also wonderfully written, each contributing a different set of emotions and novelty to the show. Great show, avaliable on Netflix Tumble into Heaven with Tumblr 'Legend' is a great start to the series Jeff Mandolfo Staff Writer Today's generation is becoming absorbed in various forms of social media on the internet. Sites such as Reddit and the famous iFunny are rapidly becoming popular trends in this area of media. One of the larger sites, well known to the avid internet user, is Tumblr. Tumblr is a username blog that allows you to post pictures and/or text, and browse through posts by other users. You can like, comment, or re-blog posts, as well as follow users that post on a topic of your interest. The site has a search engine that lets you search a topic of your choosing. It will bring up posts that have been tagged with a keyword, and it will also show users that make posts about the topic you searched so that you may follow them. When you follow a user, any posts they make will appear in your news feed. This is the page that appears when you first log in, and it is where you'll do most of your scrolling. It's a good idea to follow a lot of users for variety. Tumblr is a site for any kind of interest. This is why I give a positive review. This is the first in a three-part trilogy and is the debut of author Marie Lu. It takes place in future Los Angeles in the Republic States of America, once known as the U.S. west coast. June and Day are complete opposites in the story. June is a military prodigy, while Day is the country's most wanted criminal. Clearly, they have no reason to cross paths. That is, until June's brother is murdered. Trying to avenge his death, June engages in a game of cat and mouse with Day. As they are driven together, they begin to uncover truths they never thought imaginable and the secrets so plainly hidden to them. This book is worth the experience in the long run. It may take a few pages to grasp Day and June's situations, but once you do, you don't want to put it down. It may have a decent ending, but if anything is certain, you'll be left wanting more. The book isn't currently in the school library, so the downside is that you will have to get it at Barnes and Noble in Redding, borrow it from a friend, or wait to see if library gets it before long. If the library does get the book, hurry to get it before it's gone, or reserve it so you're at least in line to read it because once you get it, you definitely want to clear your weekend schedule so you can read it in two or three sittings. You'll be hooked into this first of a new trilogy. Google images pounding suspension, action, and a little romance. I may have been a very close reader, but the few other readers agree: if you liked The Hunger It is a gripping first book!
