Kappel Theater of the Chenango County Council of the Arts. The guys have been called “one of the best pop-jazz vocal groups in the world” by the San Francisco Chronicle for their hip jazz licks, funk and brassy bite. They’ve performed with Sheryl Crow, Boyz II Men, Backface, as well as Ray Charles and Natalie Cole. In honor of Valentine’s Day, the group will perform a show called “My Funny Valentine,” featuring a variety of love songs. Tickets range from $17.50 to $24.50. The Chenango County Council of the Arts is located at 27 W. Main St., Norwich. Auditions set for ‘Patsy Cline’ The Oneonta Theatre Stage Players will hold auditions for “Always ... Patsy Cline” at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 8, 9 and 10. The show will be stages April 7 to 10 at the theater on Chestnut Street. “Always ... Patsy Cline” is based on the true story of Cline’s friendship with Houston housewife Louise Seger. Having first heard Cline on the “Arthur Godfrey Show” in 1957, Seger became an immediate fan, and she constantly hounded the local disc jockey to play Cline’s records. Seger supplies the narrative, while Cline floats in and out singing tunes such as “Walkin’ After Midnight,” “Crazy” and at 10 p.m. Feb. 11 at the Autumn Cafe in Oneonta. A panel of women will judge whose is the finest in the land. The event will include music by the Spectacular Average Boys, the Grassroots Rebels and Mill Creek, as well as an appearance by comedian Danny Jock. A $5 cover charge will benefit the Feb. 19 Polar Bear Jump. The judges will rate each beard and mous- tache from 1-5 in the following categories: fullness, shape, originality and awesomeness. The beard, moustache or “other” with the highest score wins. First, second, and third prizes will be awarded in each category. In addition, three “honorable mention” prizes — Most Original, Mountainmanliest and Least Inspiring — will be awarded. Contestants may enter at the door until 11 p.m. A $5 entry fee will benefit the Polar Bear Jump. House to host open mic, band The Kaaterskill House, at 18 River St. in Stamford, will host an open mic and the group Diviner this weekend. The open mic will run from 7 to 10 p.m. Friday. Acoustic duo Diviner will play from 7 to 10 p.m. Saturday. Multi-instrumentalists and singer-songwriters Theodore Finkle and Pamela West fuse moun- tain folk, world pop and art rock music with spiritually uplifting lyrics. Contests, tastings galore at carnival Cooperstown’s Winter Carnival will offer tastes, treats and talent competitions Feb. 11 to 13 throughout the streets, retaurants and other areas of the village. Food competitions include the “Volcanic Blast” Chicken Wing Contest, “Aloha Means Goodbye” Chili Contest, “Island Indulgences” Dessert Lovers Contest with samples and the Cheesecake Tasting. They’ll also be the “Rip Tide” Carnival Cooler and Drink Contest, offering sample drinks by local bars for those over 21, as well the “Paper Umbrella” Wine tasting and the Duvel Pouring Contest. As far as eat- ing competi- tions, there’s the Waikiki Watermelon Earing Con- test and the Kona Pulled Pork Slider Eating Contest. The hotel is at 110 Main St. in Andes. Based in the Catskill Mountain area, Detour’s website said it’s composed of “Five uniquely talented musicians who have a tendency to make ‘Detour’s’ from the normal ‘bar band’ routine with primary em- phasis on making sure the audience is having as much as we do.” Detour features Jody Con- don, Sean Kearns, Jeff Knapp, Carl Tucker and Adam Johnson.
