Well, don’t lose it to the hassles and expense of actual travel. To get a taste of Thailand, one needs only to trot down to the corner of Main and Chestnut streets in Oneonta to the Corfu Diner, where an extensive Thai menu is available in a warm and inviting atmosphere. The Corfu is a mainstay of Main Street, where the all-day breakfast menu has long been the salvation of hangover suffer- ers, and the Greek and American menu draws a steady crowd of downtown workers on their lunch breaks. But diners looking for Thai food will also find that here, where it has grown from being an occasional special to getting its own full section on the menu. The Corfu is a sun-drenched space with large windows, high ceilings and pastel shades of color. There is an old-fashioned counter to sit at and tables that look out upon the busy street corner. Gleaming stainless steel and glassware complete the diner feel, while Mediterranean prints and framed images of gold embroi- dered elephants reflect the menu. Panos and Lily Karabinis are the proprietors. Panos represents the Greek half of the marriage (and the menu) and stays mainly in the kitchen preparing the food. Lily represents the Thai side of the union, and is the pretty, smiling face likely to take your order or process your check. 12 O-Town Scene Jan. 27, 2011        Local Eats The Greek diner also offers a taste of Thailand. Winter got you down? Why not venture south, just north of the equator on the other side of the planet to be exact, where the beautiful country of Thailand envelopes visitors within its warm embrace, and the exotic flavors of jasmine, curry and coconut milk enlivens the palette.
