B-6 The Press-Dispatch Wednesday, December 25, 2013 HVikings Continued from page B-1 It's a bird, it's a plane, it's . . . Pike Central High School senior Kegan Aldridge goes airborne to take a shot while North Posey senior Drake Davenport (12) defends during game action on Saturday, Dec. 21. Ed Cahill photo. three-pointer, giving the Vikings a 34-24 lead with 6:19 left in the third period. A basket by Aldridge would cut the deficit to eight points, but back-to-back baskets by Bender and Gerteisen and a free throw by Ungetheim stretched North Posey's lead to 39-26 with 3:12 remaining in the third quarter. Pike Central would get no closer than nine points the rest of the game. "We just lost our focus," Mokris said. "Whatever we did last night, team basketball and execution, after the first quarter tonight, we digressed." Garrett Elliott led the Lady Chargers with 12 points while freshman Gabe Elliott had 10 points and a teamhigh four rebounds. Aldridge, who had a team-high three steals, and freshman Colton White added eight points each while junior Garrett Wojtowicz came off the bench to net five points. Toopes, who dished out a team-high five assists and blocked three shots, had four points while senior Bailey White scored two points. During the contest, the Chargers drew their first four offensive fouls of the season, with Toopes and Bailey White taking three and one, respectively. "It takes a lot of guts to do that," Mokris said. "I told them that if we took three offensive fouls tonight, I thought we would win, but that wasn't the case." For the game, Pike Central made 17 of 45 field goal attempts, a 37.8 percent average, and hit 12 of 17 tries from the free throw line while turning the ball over 16 times. Gerteisen added 14 points in the winning effort while grabbing a gamehigh 15 rebounds and dishing out five assists. Marshall also reached double figures in scoring with 13 points. Ungetheim and senior Zach Carl netted five points each while junior Bryce Martin have four points and a game-high five steals. For the game, North Posey made 26 of 47 field goal attempts, a 55.3 percent average, and hit eight of 14 tries from the free throw line while turning the ball over 15 times. Pike Central returns to action on Friday, Jan. 3, when the Chargers will travel to Springs Valley. They will then travel to Princeton on Saturday, Jan. 3, to make up a game originally scheduled for Dec. 7 that was postponed due to inclement weather. "I'm going to give the boys about four days off to enjoy the holidays," Mokris said. "I'm going to scout four different tournaments, so we'll get back on it the day after Christmas and we'll try to fine-tune some stuff, maybe change a couple of things, and go from there."
