The Press-Dispatch ★ Church news Continued from page 4 PETERSBURG CHURCH OF THE NAZARENE 118 West Pike Ave. 354-8851—Church We invite you to join us in all our services. Sunday school 9:30 a.m.; morning worship 10:30 a.m.; youth time 5 p.m.; children's Bible quizzing 5:45 p.m.; evening worship 6 p.m.; Wednesday, adult Bible study/prayer 7 p.m. We will be having a combined service this Sunday starting at 10 a.m. As we reflect on this past year, we are reminded that we have much for which to be thankful. My prayer for you during this Christmas season is that you will reflect on, and live in, the reality of John 1:14 and 17 NKJV... "The Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth. For the law was given through Moses, but grace and truth came through Jesus Christ." All that God was, is, and ever would be was wrapped up in the flesh of man to not just merely stop by and visit, but to dwell (live, reside) with us. Although the Word does not dwell physically with us now, the Spirit of God lives in each heart that has accepted His grace and truth. He is the only one that brings real grace and truth, and as you live in that grace and truth, may you behold His glory in abundant measure. www.petersburgnaz.net. Saturday, Dec. 28, Bill Evans will be bringing the word. The Touchstone A painter of landscape scenes always kept in front of him on his easel a number of precious stones-emerald, sapphire, ruby. Asked why, he replied, "To help me keep my colors true. In course of time, without some constant reference, my eye might lose its perception of color tones, and the colors I choose may not be right, may not be what they once were." So it is with us, in the requirements of our ongoing life. Lest we wander astray, we need occasional exposure to some unchanging and unfading standard. Unless we are in touch with some constant reference, we can deviate and scarcely know it. We need some touchstone to test ourselves by, one that is worthy of what life is, one by which our life tones can be safely set-the only perfect unchanging Lord. Bob Shepherd, Reporter Wednesday, December 25, 2013 C-5 Monica's program at church. God has been good to our church this year and we know He will be good to us as we end 2013 and begin 2014. Be in prayer, as we raise funds needed to start a new building across the road. Ryan Edrington, will be bringing the message this coming Sunday, as Rev. Pancake will be visiting with his family, who are back in Indiana from Ft. Hood, New York. The best gift of all is Jesus. May God truly bless you and yours, during this Christmas season. We will have Communion at the church on Sunday, January 5, during our worship service. Fellowship Sunday will be January 12. We will be having soup and sandwiches following morning worship. Everyone is invited to attend. We will also have our January Church Council meeting at 6 p.m. Come join us at our services. Everyone is welcome. Our Mission Statement: Loving the 99, always looking for the one. Gary Pancake, Pastor Ivan Mason, Reporter cry, my King and my God, for to You do I pray" (Psalm 5:2). Prayer is so simple, it is nothing more than talking to God and listening to what He has to say. God wants to teach each one of us to pray and hear His voice in personal ways. He wants to take us just the way we are and help us discover our own unique rhythm of prayer and develop a style of prayer that maximizes our personal relationship with Him. He wants prayer to be an easy, natural, life-giving way of communicating with Him as we share our hearts with Him and allow Him to share His heart with us. You are God's unique creation. Celebrate that in your life and in your prayer. Hope to see you in church. God bless. Mark Davis, Pastor Greg Davis, Assoc.
