OCTOBER 2013 Freeman Brookfield & Elm Grove • Page 3A Vrakas proposes New Berlin, Brookfield intersection improvements in 2014 budget WAUKESHA – County Executive Dan Vrakas plans to improve two popular intersections in Brookfield and New Berlin as part of his 2014 executive budget, according to a press release from Public Works Director Allison Bussler. Vrakas announced plans to improve the intersection of Highway YY (Pilgrim Road) and Burleigh Road in Brookfield, as well as the intersection of Highway Y (Racine Avenue) and Highway I (Lawnsdale Road) in New Berlin, as part of his Five Year Capital Plan. According to the release, the Brookfield intersection is currently controlled by temporary traffic signals and experiences high traffic volumes and delays. The improvements will include making the traffic signals permanent and reconfiguring lanes to prevent delays and rear-end car accidents. Design for the upgraded intersection will begin next year, and construction should take place in 2015, pending the necessary approvals. The New Berlin intersection's upgrades will include the addition of traffic signals and turn lanes, and it will follow a similar design and construction schedule, according to the release. "Public safety is a top priority and strategic objective of Waukesha County," Vrakas said in the release. "These updates will improve overall safety and usability for residents using these intersections. These improvements are required to prevent traffic delays and accidents as well as to meet the needs of the county's growing population." The County Board is expected to approved the budget in November, according to the release.
