Art People Tracy Helgeson of Fly Creek “I’m most inspired by the landscape around me. The portraits are very chal- lenging, and make me crazy when I’m working on them. The landscapes are very peaceful. They make me feel calm, and good. I like having both. I think it’s important to have both.” Deanne Likes Pink (left) and Cotton Candy Updo (right) are a part of Hegelson’s “People You Know” project. People You Know is an ongoing series of portraits based on photographs that she finds at yard sales, antiques shops, estate auctions and on eBay. She said she looks for elements in the photographs that appeal to her such as the figure, items in the background, a particular pattern or pose. These portraits are about the photographs that she chooses and her connection to them. Hegelson’s work can be seen at various galleries. Locally, she has a piece in the Cooperstown Art Association’s “Luck of the Draw” fundraising show. For more information on where to see her work, visit her website at www.tracyhel- geson.com.
