MONMOUTH, Ore. _ A Western Oregon University student is finding life on campus a little different this fall since her roommate became an Internet sensation. The videos and photos that catapulted Kara R.o.B.S. A. Weinegger’s roommate to fame don’t show her dancing, singing or making a fool of herself. But she does sport some stylish outfits. Even more amazing, Weinegger’s room- mate is only 3 years old. And she’s covered in fur. Weinegger posted the first video of her cat, Snookie, about a year ago. “She was playing with this toy mouse on my bed, and I just thought it was really cute. I took a video with my phone _ maybe 10 seconds long,” Weinegger said. When Weinegger posted the video to her Facebook page, she was surprised by the response. (As of Sept. 29, Weinegger had 1,759 friends listed on her Facebook page.) “So many people said they liked the video,” titled “Snookie gets her mouse,” Weinegger said Friday. After posting a few more videos _ show- ing Snookie batting at a curtain tassel, leap- ing into an empty bathtub and sleeping in a laundry hamper _ Weinegger decided to make Snookie her own Facebook page. At first, Snookie’s only friends were Weinegger’s friends. Tamara Knox, who lived with Weinegger during the 2008-09 school year, friended Snookie “because I remember her running around our old apartment like that,” Knox said by phone Monday. “She’s such a cute kitty.” But by the time Weinegger went home to Eugene for winter break, Snookie had It’s hard to tell what’s true these days. Snookie the cat is sure more popular than owner on Facebook B. accumulated almost twice as many friends than her two-legged owner. The cat hit the website’s 5,000-friend threshold around April, Weinegger said. In person, Snookie displayed little of the kitten-like enthusiasm displayed in her numerous Facebook videos. At Weinegger’s apartment on Friday, the longhaired orange tabby was napping in a sunbeam by the window, barely flicking an ear toward the sound of her master’s voice as Weinegger told the story of her cat’s rise to stardom. As for the cat’s name, Weinegger is quick to point out that any resemblance to a certain “Jersey Shore” starlet is purely coincidental. “I got this cat before ‘Jersey Shore’ was even a show,” Weinegger said. Is Weinegger embarassed that her feline has more friends than she? “Not really,” Weineg- ger said. “I think it’s kind of cool, actually.” To see what all the fuss is about, visit www.facebook.com/snookiethecat. ADRIAN, Mich. – A man plans to ride his Harley-Davidson about 300 miles from the Mackinac Bridge in Michigan to the Ohio border without using his hands to steer to raise money for Parkinson's disease research. Phil Comar of Adrian told The Daily Telegram that the Sunday ride is in memory of his father, Robert, who died in 2008. He wants to raise $3,000 with the ride for the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research. The 61-year-old has been riding motor bikes and motorcycles almost 50 years, and said he'll steer with his legs and by leaning. An extra gas tank has been added to the back of his motorcycle so he can go nonstop. Comar plans to ride to the bridge that connects Michigan's Upper Peninsula and Lower Peninsula on Saturday _ no-handed at times.
