Twentysomething a cappella pros Sonos are bringing their sultry, indie style to the West Kortright Centre for a show at 7:30 p.m. Saturday. The Los Angelos-based group spins modern music and classically choral sensibility into songs by the likes of Radiohead, Sara Bareilles (an a cappella veteran herself, she joins Sonos for a rendition of her “Gravity” on the group’s album), Fleet Foxes, Bon Iver, Imogen Heap and other 21st Century artists. Their moody, trip-hop rendition of “I Want You Back,” the only megahit in their repe- toire, won the CASA award for Best Pop/ Rock song of the year. The members (Jessica Freedman, Rachel Bearer, Katharine Hoye, Chris Harrison, Paul Peglar and Ben McLain) play with a sound sys- tem to make electronic vocal music. “We think of our collection of pedals and loops as the seventh member of the group,” England-born and L.A.-bred Hoye said in a press release. A few of the members were in the UCLA vocal ensemble Awaken A Cappella, which Bareilles was also a member. Peglar, whose range is variously described as “rock tenor” and “ballsy falsetto” by his compatriots, has been spotted playing key- boards on the TV series Glee. The group’s sexy, modern style exemplify how a cappella can be for grown-ups, too. Not old-fashioned, but not your typical high school or college a cappella, either.
