Formed in 2011, Dirty Grass Soul has earned a reputation as one of the southeast's emerging Southern Rock/Alt. Country bands with their music falling somewhere between country, bluegrass, and southern rock and roll, reminiscent of acts like The Charlie Daniels Band and The Marshall Tucker Band. "We are very excited to bring DGS to play in Kings Mountain," states founder and lead singer Kevin Dedmon. "Anytime we get to perform close to home is a bonus, and Patriots Park has a great amphitheater where folks in Cleveland County can bring out the entire family to watch a show." CBMA nominees, The Main Event Band, and DJ Drew Fulton will open the show. The event will start with a cruise-in and pre-show at 5:00 pm, followed by the concert at 6:00 pm. Patriots Park is located at 220 South Railroad Avenue, Kings Mountain. As always, KM events are FREE! Thomas Ray Green Thomas Ray Green, age 78 of Forest City died Thursday, September 14, 2023. Ray was born July 11,1945, in Rutherford County and was a son of the late Grover Crayton Green and Grace Brindle Green. He graduated in the first class at East Rutherford High School in 1963. He enlisted in the United States Navy and served his coun- try in Vietnam. After com- pleting his military service, Ray continued his education at Isothermal Community College and Garder-Webb College. Ray began his career working for Kimbrell's Furniture in Forest City as the store's Assistant manag- er. He later became man- ager and held that position for 32 years. Ray worked his entire career with Kimbrell's, retiring in 2010. He was a member of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church. He was a member of the Forest City Kiwanis Club and was named Kiwanis Citizen of the Year. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Donna Robbins Green, his daugh- ter, Tonya Dedmon of Spindale, his sons, Ryan Green and wife Jessica of Forest City and Regan Green and wife Jennifer of Greer, SC, his brothers, Joel Green of Mooresboro and Jeff Green of Forest City, and four grandchildren. A memorial service was held September 18 in The Padgett and King Chapel with Rev. Matt Mills and Rev. Pat Jobe officiating. Military Honors were accord- ed by the Rutherford County Honor Guard. Kiwanis members selected Ken Hardin's 1957 Ford convertible as their pick from those entered in the show. Kiwanis president Jim Bishop is shown presenting the plaque for the award. 57 vehicles were entered in the show ranging from older models to some newer Corvettes. Bishop said he was excited about the club's fi rst car show which netted $2300 that will be used to reach out to help children and youth in the area. He also thanked all who supported the show. Johnnie Adkins who helped organize the show complimented the Kiwanians on the effort club members put forth to plan and execute the event. Adkins said he appreciated the opportunity to work with the Kiwanis club.
