Born in Lincoln County on March 4, 1938, he was the son of the late William Cone Anthony and Mae Belle Watts Anthony. Mr. Anthony served our country in the U.S. Army. In addition to his parents he is pre- ceded in death by a brother, James Anthony. He is survived by his sis- ter, Connie Barger and hus- band, Bill of Crouse. A Memorial Service was held August 5, 2023 at Stamey-Cherryville Funeral Home Chapel. The burial was private. RAY McNEIL BRIDGES Ray McNeil Bridges, 87, of Shelby, passed away on July 30, 2023. Ray was born July 13, 1936. He was the son of the late James Corbett (J.C.) Bridges and Tula Bell Beason Bridges. In addition to his par- ents he was preceded in death by his wife, Wilda B. Bridges; his brothers: J.C. Jr, Waylon, Clyde, Don, and Bobby Dean: his sis- ters: Mary Sue Webber, Lois Patterson Cobb, Juanita Prejean, Rachel Greene, Betty Baker, and Louise Robbins Beaubeon. He is survived by his wife, Rebecca Hartley Bridges of Shelby; his son, David and his wife, Debbie of Kinston, NC; his daughter, Kathy Hege and husband, Luke of Shelby; four grandchildren; four great grandchildren; a step son, Terry Hartley; and a step daughter, Amy Hartley. A graveside service was held August 2, 2023 in Cleveland Memorial Park with the Rev. Dale Byrd offi- ciating. Born in Kings Mountain, NC, he was the son of Madison Monroe Wilson and Janie Black Wilson. Surviving Mr. Wilson is his brother, John Wilson (Nina). BETTY STRINGFELLOW COOK Betty Stringfellow Cook, 80, of Blacksburg, SC, passed away on Saturday, July 29, 2023 She was born in Cleveland County on October 9, 1942, to the late William Grady Stringfellow and Vernie Mae Wright Stringfellow. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Arnold Lee Cook; two sisters, Brenda Sain and Louise Gantt; and son-in-law, Richard Tackett. She is survived by her son, Ricky Cook of Conover; five daughters, Sherry Hawkins and husband, Everette of Blacksburg, Rhenda Tackett and Michael Vaughn of Gaffney, Lisa Smith and husband, Richard of Casar, Tammy Ostwalt and Jim Griffin of Blacksburg and Angel Hamrick and husband Eric of Belwood; two sisters, Lib Prater of Shelby and Ruth Willis of Lawndale; ten grandchildren and twenty- eight great grandchildren. Colleen was born in Cleveland County, NC, daughter of the late CS and Lillie Marie Eaker Reynolds and was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Tate; a son, Gregory "Greg" Tate; her sister, Sarah Moree Grayson; and her brothers, Jimmy, Floyd, Pat, Thomas, Roy, and Carl Reynolds. She is survived by her son, Mike Tate and wife, Susan, Duluth, GA; daugh- ter-in-law, Kim Porter Tate, Kings Mountain, NC; four grandchildren; and five great grandchildren.
