Born in Lincoln County on March 4, 1938, he was the son of the late William Cone Anthony and Mae Belle Watts Anthony. Mr. Anthony served our country in the U.S. Army. In addition to his parents he is pre- ceded in death by a brother, James Anthony. He is survived by his sis- ter, Connie Barger and hus- band, Bill of Crouse. RAY McNEIL BRIDGES Ray McNeil Bridges, 87, of Shelby, passed away on July 30, 2023. Ray was born July 13, 1936. He was the son of the late James Corbett (J.C.) Bridges and Tula Bell Beason Bridges. BETTY STRINGFELLOW COOK Betty Stringfellow Cook, 80, of Blacksburg, SC, passed away on Saturday, July 29, 2023 She was born in Cleveland County on October 9, 1942, to the late William Grady Stringfellow and Vernie Mae Wright Stringfellow. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Arnold Lee Cook; two sisters, Brenda Sain and Louise Gantt; and son-in-law, Richard Tackett. She is survived by her son, Ricky Cook of Conover; five daughters, Sherry Hawkins and husband, Everette of Blacksburg, Rhenda Tackett and Michael Vaughn of Gaffney, Lisa Smith and husband, Richard of Casar, Tammy Ostwalt and Jim Griffin of Blacksburg and Angel Hamrick and husband Eric of Belwood; two sisters, Lib Prater of Shelby and Ruth Willis of Lawndale; ten grandchildren and twenty- eight great grandchildren.
