Entertainment Now | June 3 - 9, 2023 Sunday morning | 7 By Michelle Rose TV Media Dutton dad is done: If you haven't heard already, series lead Kevin Costner is leaving "Yellowstone," and the series "Yellowstone" is leaving the air- waves (sort of). Paramount confirmed that the cowboy drama will wrap after its current season, which is current- ly on a midseason break. The second half of Season 5 should premiere in November, though that timeline could change given the writers strike. What will the TV landscape look like without the warring Dutton family? Luckily, it could be a while until we're forced to deal with that reality, because Paramount has already ordered an untitled sequel that is cur- rently in development — in fact, the network is hoping for a De- cember debut (again, the writers strike could delay things). "The Dutton story continues, picking up where 'Yellowstone' leaves off in another epic tale," David Glosser, CEO of produc- tion company 101 Studios, said in a statement about the series. Unlike the other "Yellow- stone" prequels and sequels, the latest off-shoot will reportedly be the first to include "Yellow- stone" in its title, effectively ty- ing it to the parent series. And while reports that Matthew Mc- Conaughey ("True Detective") is saddling up to play the lead first surfaced in February, just last month, Deadline indicated he was still in talks to star in this franchise extension. Deadline also reported that a few original "Yellowstone" cast members have received offers to appear in the spinoff, though casting may only be finalized once co-creator Taylor Sheridan finishes the scripts (another delay risk giv- en). There has also been much speculation about whether Cost- ner, whose character, John, has weathered countless threats from within and outside the Dut- ton family, will even appear in the season-turned-series finale. He is also directing and starring in the upcoming western film "Horizon," which he co-wrote. Meanwhile, Part 2 of "Yellow- stone" Season 5 is supposed to begin filming in August, though as previously indicated, that may be subject to change. New 'Nightmare': Remem- ber "Kitchen Nightmares?"
