Chargers 7th in PAC golf tournament By Andy Heuring Press-Dispatch Sports sports@pressdispatch.net Pike Central's golf team placed seventh in the Pocket Athletic Conference cham- pionships on Monday. The tournament was originally set for Saturday, September 3, but a strong storm with heavy rain and lightning hit about an hour after play started. It was moved to Monday and shortened to a nine-hole format on the back nine at Countr y Oaks instead of 18-holes. Pike Central shot a 210 to place seventh out of 13 teams in the PAC. "We didn't play badly, but our short game killed us. I feel like we hit the ball a lot better than our scores showed," said Char- ger head coach Jarrod Gide- on. Pike Central's best nine hole score this season has been 206. Countr y Oaks is one of the harder courses the girls play. Junior Brailey Mills had the low score for the Char- gers with a 48. Senior Chloe Williams had a 53, Addy Russel 54 and Mabr y Shoul- tz a 55 to round out the team 210. Grace Goodpasture had a 58. Pike Central was just eight shots out of fourth place as only 17 shots separated fourth and 10th places. "The middle after third place was really tightly packed," said Coach Gideon. Gibson Southern won the meet with a team 165 and Madilyn Sperling of Gibson Southern was the medalist with a 36. The team results were: 1) Gibson Southern 165, 2) Mt. Vernon, 189 3) Southridge 193, 4) Washington 202, 5) South Spencer 203, 6) North Posey, 7)Pike Central 210, 8) Tecumseh 212, 9) Forest Park, Heritage Hills 216, 11) Boonville 219, 12) Princeton 251 and 13) Tell City 258. On Tuesday the Charger boys fell to SouthKnox 5-0. The number two doubles team of Adon Lemon and Nate carter lost 6-3, 6-3 to South Knox's Evan Dreiman and Isaac True. The number one doubles team of Parker Knust and JJ Belmore fell 6-2 and 6-1 to Noah Hayden and Tanner Holland In singles matches Eli Ar- nold at number one singles fell 6-2, 6-0 to Nathan Rob- bins, while Charger Kaden Engler t lost 6-0, 6-0 to Hunt- er Sievers. At number three singles Ethan Man lost to South Knox's Caleb Evans 6-0, 6-0. On Wednesay the Charger faced Southrige and lost 5-0. Pike Centrals number ones had the most competitive matches.. Eli Arnold at number one single lost to Raider senior Mick Uebelhor 6-3, 6-2, while number one doubles team of Parker Knust and JJ Belmore fell to Raider seniors Kayden and Kyan Thyen 6-4, 6-2. At number two doubles Adon Lemond and NAte Car- ter fell 6-1 and 6-2 to the Raid- ers. KAden Englert and Ethan Mann at number two and three singles both lost 6-0,6-0. Pike Central is 1-9 on the year. Riker fourth at middle school HH Invite By Andy Heuring Press-Dispatch Sports sports@pressdispatch.net Pike Central's Emily Riker placed fourth in the Heritage Hills Patriot Invitational on Saturday. Riker ran a 12:01 as the Charger top runner. The Charger girls placed sixth out of eight teams. Other finishers were Au- drey Whitehead in 28th place with a time of 13:24, Kylie Meyer in 38th at 13:36, Ava Miller in 50th at 14:04, Eva Cox in 55th at 14:15, Jessa Ridao in 56th at 14:15, Kinley Blackwell in 69th at 14:55, Indiana Hill in 82nd at 15:19 and Caleigh Cox in 91st at 15:42, Neva Schilling 105 at 16:27, Mia Quer y 11th at 16:48 and Alivia Weitkamp 18th at 17:13. Jasper won the girls race with a score of 32. Mooly Isaacs of Jasper was the in- dividual winner in a time of 11:36. Pike Central's boys did not have a team score as only four boys competed. Taylor Russell placed 82nd in a time of 13:38. Connor Fields was 95th in 14:37, Jon- athon Kohl was 99th in 14:56 and Jey Worly was 105th in 15:38. Chargers soccer swept by Forest Park on Saturday By Andy Heuring Press-Dispatch Sports sports@pressdispatch.net Pike Central's boys and girls team were swept by Forest Park on Saturday in soccer. The girls lost a hard- fought game 3-1 playing with just 11 players, which meant they had no substitutes on the hot afternoon. They fell 2-0 to Forest Park. "Forest Park is a ver y good team and always plays really hard. We played well, not letting them have any really clean looks the first half," said Charger girls coach Chad Western. In the second half Forest Park got the first goal of the game on a corner kick with about 30 minutes left in reg- ulation. Jaylynn Capehart got the Chargers on the board with about 12 minutes left in reg- ulation with "a great free kick," said Western. Regulation play ended in a 1-1 tie, the two teams then played to a scoreless seven minute overtime. In the second overtime Forest Park scored with four min- utes remaining to take a 2-1 lead. Coach Western said the Chargers then moved play- ers for ward in an attempt to score, which left their back line defenders more vulnera- ble. Forest Park had a break and scored late to make it 3-1. "We played ver y well with no subs again," said Western. Pike Central's boys had a rough day in a hard-fought match as they lost 2-0 to For- est Park. "We just couldn't get a good break as all the fa- vorable bounces went Forest Park's way," said Coach Da- vid Hay. Forest Park scored one goal in the first half and added a second in the second half, and Pike Central was not able to get on the score- board. On Thursday the boys beat North Posey as they got three goals from Joey Ridao and one each from Jo- nas Martinez and Cameron Roy. Isaac Burdette, Ethan Meadors and Nolan Nelson each had an assist in the game. Pike Central excelled in the second half as the first half ended in a 1-1 tie, but the Chargers put up four goals in the second half against the Vikings. Pike Central's boys are 6-6 and 5-4 in the PAC. They will play Heritage Hills on Thurs- day. Pike Central number one singles player Eli Arnold hits a high forehand during a recent match. Weisman wins cross country HH Patriot Invite By Andy Heuring Press-Dispatch Sports sports@pressdispatch.net Pike Central's Xaver y Weis- man won the girls race in the Heritage Hills Patriot Invita- tional on Saturday that includ- ed seven teams. "We were ver y pleased with our teams today. Xaver y had a great first meet back and gave a big lift to our girls team. The boys are star ting to break some time barriers as we tr y to move the pack ahead. We also had 14 individ- uals set season PR's. We had a few individuals just miss top 10 finishes today. We are definitely headed in the right direction and look for ward to getting all of our runners back healthy," said Coach Randy Graham. Weisman ran a 19:07 to win the event by 15 seconds over second place Emma Gresham of Boonville. Third place was Hinson Riley of Forest Park another 45 seconds back at 20:07. Pike Central as a team placed fourth with a team score of 79. Sophomore Kaylyn War- ner placed 11th for the Char- gers in a time of 22:58 and Kennedy Willis was 16th in 23:47. Kylee Weathers was 27th in 26:04 with Ashlyn Kirk on her heels in 28th at 26:14. Gibson Southern won the meet with a team score of 60. The other teams were: 2) For- est Park 67, 3) Heritage Hills 76, 4) Pike Central 79, 5) Boon- ville 81, 6) Springs Valley 142 and Crawford County 7) 172. Pike Central's number two runner, Anna Whitehead did not compete. If she had run times similar to her recent performances Pike Central could have won the meet. In the boys meet Pike Cen- tral finished fifth out of eight teams. Jeremy Delobel was the Charger top runner placing 13th with a 18:02, while Peyton Chanley placed 18th in 18:27. Dallas Ruetepohler was 25th in 19:09, Carter Blackwell was 36th in 19:54 and Shane Wood- hull in 39th at 20:08 with Tyler deCoursey one second back in 39th place. Dylan Charles ran 43rd in 20:21, Jacoby Smith 47th in 30:39, Quintin McCormick 57th in 22:01, Ethan Mann 65th in 23:38 and Kenny Ge- rard 70th in 26:31. Gibson Southern won the boys meet with a team score of 33. The other team results were: 2) Heritage Hills 68, Ev. Signature 81, 4) Springs Val- ley 84, 5) Pike Central 119, 6) Tecumseh 154, 7) Boonville 192, and 8) Crawford County 202. One of Pike Central's top runners, Blaine Barnett did not compete.
