Continued From Page 16 Dick was born October 14, 1942, in Defiance, OH to the late Joseph and Geneva Theis. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brothers, Jimmy, Ted, and Phil Theis, and his sis- ter, Joann Howe. Mr. Theis served our country in the US Navy. He is survived by his wife, Ruth W. Theis; three children: Cindy (Rob) Wyatt, Jeff Theis, Brian (Karen) Theis; and two grandchil- dren. Joe was born Saturday, September 28, 1946 in Rutherford County to the late Paul and Lona Toms Lowery. He served our country in the U.S. Army and the National Guard. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Johnny and Robert Lowery and stepsons, Jimmy Wells, Tim Wells and Bobby Todd Wells. He is survived by his wife, Joyce Lowery; daugh- ter, Kathy Greene (Keith) of Ellenboro; sons, Mark Lowery (Carol) and Paul Lowery (Kim) all of Forest City; stepdaughters, Tammy McMahan (Kenny) of Ellenboro, Kim Lee (Don) of U.S. Sen. In Kings Mountain and Grover, the following elementary schools meet this requirement: Bethware Elementary School, East Elementary School, Gro- ver Elementary School, and North Elementary School. Section 104(a) of the Healthy, Hunger Free Kids Act of 2010 amended the National School Lunch Act to provide an alterna- tive to household eligibil- ity applications for free and reduced-price meals in high poverty districts and schools. The overall pur- pose of the CEP is to im- prove access to nutritious meals for students in high poverty areas by providing meals to all students "at no cost" to the students. Students enrolled in a non-CEP school who eats meals while visiting a CEP school automatically qual- ify for free breakfast and lunch. OVEN-FRIED ZUCCHINI Wilma Hoyle 3 med. size tender zucchini 1/3 cup buttermilk Salt ½ cup cornmeal mix 1/3 cup vegetable oil Slice zucchini lengthwise ¼ inches thick Dip each slice in buttermilk, salt lightly, roll in cornmeal mix. Place in shallow bak- ing pan which contains a thin layer of oil. Bake at 400 degrees until golden brown. Turn and brown other side. Place on absorbent towels if oil seems excessive. ONE POT CHICKEN STROGANOFF Ruth Wilson 1 med. Onion chopped 2 Tbsp. vegetable oil 3 cups med. egg noodles, uncooked 2 cups diced, cooked chicken 1 pkg. (10 oz.) frozen vegetables 2 chicken bouillon cubes dissolved in 3 cups water ¾ tsp. salt ¼ tsp. pepper ½ tsp. poultry seasoning ¼ tsp. garlic powder 1 cup sour cream Sauté onion in Dutch oven. Add remaining ingredients except sour cream. Bring to boil. Reduce heat and sim- mer about 10 minutes. Re- move from heat and stir in sour cream. Serve. NO FRILLS POUND CAKE Wilma Hoyle 1 cup Crisco 2 ½ cups sugar 4 eggs 3 cups flour 1 cup milk 1 tsp. baking powder 1 tsp. salt 1 ½ tsp. vanilla 3 tsp. lemon flavoring Cream sugar and Crisco together. Add eggs one at a time, beating between each. Mix flour, salt, and baking powder with milk. Add va- nilla and lemon flavoring. Pour into a greased and floured tube or Bundt pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 1 ¼ hours. FROZEN LEMON DESSERT Johnnie Ware 1 tall can very cold Pet milk 1 small can frozen lemonade ½ cup sugar 1 ½ cups vanilla wafers or graham cracker crumbs Beat milk until thick. Add the lemonade and sugar and beat well. Sprinkle one cup crumbs on bottom of oblong or square casserole dish or pan. Put above mixture on crumbs. Sprinkle 1/2 cup crumbs on top. Freeze. Cut in squares to serve. GOLF BALLS Chris Scruggs 1 stick margarine 1 pkg. chopped dates (8 oz.) 1 small can coconut 1 cup brown sugar 1 6 oz. pkg. pecans 2 cups Rice Krispies Melt butter and sugar and cook 5 minutes. Add dates and cook 5 minutes. Re- move from heat. Add pe- cans, coconut, and Rice Krispies.
