A native of Lee County, he was the son of the late Joseph Carpenter and Margie Arnold. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Sue Carpenter; his grandmoth- er; step-son, Christopher Putnam; brothers, Junior, Frank and Ronnie Appleman, Reece Arnold Jr.; and sister, Ruth Appleman. He is survived by his step-daughter, Patricia Morrow of Shelby; step-son, Steven Putnam; sisters, Fay Blackmon and hus- band Robert, Sue Leftwich, Debra Lancaster and hus- band Curtis, Barbara Brown and husband Terry, Trudy Jones, Christine Heflin and husband Steve; brother, Ray Carpenter; four grand- children; and twelve great- grandchildren. Funeral services were held August 22, 2022 at Clay-Barnette Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Jerry Owens officiating. ROBERT MATHIS SHORT Robert Mathis Short, 47, of Casar, passed away on Friday, August 19, 2022. Born in Cleveland County, on May 27, 1975, he was a son of Richard Jenkins Short and Amanda Correll Short of Casar. In addition to his parents he is survived by his wife, Betsy Hord Short of Shelby; a son, Michael King of Kings Mountain; three stepdaugh- ters, Kaitlyn James, Amanda James, and Melissa James of Shelby; a brother, Tyson Short and wife Tanya of George Hildebrand; a sister, Trina Beighley of Monroe; and two grandchildren. The funeral service was held August 23, 2022 at 2 PM at Calvary's Cross Baptist Church with the Rev. Billy Boone officiating. The burial followed in the church cemetery. Born in Cleveland County, on December 16, 1951, she was a daughter of the late Andrew Horace White and Bernice Montea Cash White. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by a sister, Diane Marlowe. She is survived by her hus- band, Ray Baxter Sigmon, a son, Jacob Sigmon and wife Mary Graham of Shelby; a daughter, Andrea "Andi" Sigmon of Mauldin, SC; two sisters, Teresa Weaver of Lawndale and Linda Haskin and husband Emmett of Shelby; and two grandchil- dren. Keith's memorial service was held August 21, 2022, at David Baptist Church with Rev. Jim Brackett officiating. COHEN LEE JACKSON Infant Cohen Lee Jackson passed away on Sunday, August 14, 2022. He was born on Friday, February 25, 2022 to Joshua Ryan Jackson of Forest City. Beside his father, he is survived by big sisters, McKinley Lane of Bostic, Elaina Jackson of the home and Artemis McComas of Hollis; his grandparents; and great grandparents. A celebration of Cohen's life was held August 23, 2022 at the Harrelson Funeral Chapel with his Grandpa Sonny Dycus and Cousin Scott Roach officiating. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Junior Spurling; one son, Ronnie Spurling (Shelia); and two brothers, Leon Williams and Gene Williams and four sisters, Naomi Jones, Linda Morrison, Rose Grantt and Ellie Goins. Survivors include her four sons, Jerry (Vickie) Spurling, Randy (Debra) Spurling, Jeffery Spurling, and Steve Spurling all of Shelby, one daughter, Wanda Spurling of Chesnee, SC; and thirteen grandchildren and twenty five great grandchildren.
