Young had an assist on Willis' score and Willis had both assists on Young's two goals. "Wren (Kabrick) played very well in the goal and our defense was great. McDonald Press-Dispatch Sports sports@pressdispatch.net Pike Central traveled to Tecumseh for their second game of the season last Fri- day night. Head coach Kelly Brashear knew coming in that Braves senior halfback Chase Jones was going to be a chal- lenge to contain. For the first three quarters the Chargers kept the game within striking distance, but in the end, Jones and the Braves' running game was too much for the young Chargers to handle as they fell 33-6. Pike Central returned the opening kickoff to the 27-yard line, but quickly got pushed back with a holding penalty. After a short run on third and 13, the Chargers punted. Tecumseh Senior Tailback Chase Jones returned the ball 26 yards to the Charger 24 yard line. The Braves ran the ball four straight times before Chase Jones punched it in the end zone from two yards out. With the extra point it was Braves 7, Chargers 0 with 7:39 to go in the first quarter. On their next drive, the Chargers converted a third and 10 with an 11-yard pass from Matthew Meadows to Braden Howald. The Braves stuffed a couple of short runs before Meadows' pass on third and 12 fell incomplete. This time Jones returned the punt 44 yards to the Pike Central 16. Then the Chargers retook the momentum with a hustle play from Grant Boyd, who intercepted a pass that bounced off of the Brave re- ceiver in the end zone. The Charger offense took over at the 20-yard line, but once again a holding call backed them up, forcing third and long. Meadows' pass to Connor Loveless fell incom- plete on third and 20 and the Chargers punted, backing up the Braves to their 49-yard line. One play later the Char- ger defense once again seized Charger safety Matthew Meadows makes a tackle near the sideline on a Tecumseh running back.
