Poplar Street, Petersburg SCHOOL D-4 Wednesday, August 31, 2022 The Press-Dispatch Otwell Miller Academy Winslow Elementary School Third grade student Teaghon Poselwait is engineering with a STEAM bin. Ms. Nicole Sutton's third grade class is engineering with STEAM bins. Nevaeh Cannon and Tobias Manning do an SEL les- son in Mrs. Anderson's 3rd grade classroom. The stu- dents talked about how when we say unkind words to others we can't take them back. The toothpaste won't go back in the tube! Addie Sams and Brooks Powell tr y to get their tooth- paste back in the tube. Retired teacher Jenny Cherr y dropped in for a visit and was recruited to help the 5th grade students practice the WES school song. Many of the 5th graders had Ms. Cherr y in kindergarten and were excited to see her again. Dr Blake "caught" Kaleigh Schultz wearing her Paragon fundraiser lanyard and gave her a dollar. Students earn their lanyard and then wear them throughout the fundraiser in hopes of getting the extra dollar prize. DJ Stafford in Jenn Ficklin's class reads a book to his classmates. Mrs. Deb Troutman teaches third grade students rhythm with sticks. Third grade students Josie Pauw; Fayelynn Hayes; Dicen Moyes; and Bailey Amburgy plan how they will tackle a sci- ence activity. Third grade students Teaghon Poselwait, Kenzi Miller-Kio, Rhaelee Wilson, and Remi Troutman are working on a science activity. The fifth grade students watched the complete metamorphosis of a Monarch caterpillar into a Monarch Butterfly. The class released it so it can travel to Mexico. During summer break, Rylee Nelson attended a week long STEM camp at Bowling Green University in Bowling Green, Ohio. This past week she shared with the class the mBot robot she built and the skills she learned. mBot is a great tool for beginners to learn to code and develop logical thinking and design skills. Rylee demonstrated how her robot was programmed to move including completion of a figure 8.
