B-2 Wednesday, August 17, 2022 The Press-Dispatch back Matthew Meadows' five yard completion to Conner Loveless. The offenses then reset to the 35-yard line, with the Chargers having the first op- portunity. After a Howald run for eight yards, Meadows hit Howald on a deep play action pass over the defense for a twenty-seven yard strike. With the scrimmage near- ing its mid-point, Howald had scored by interception, rush and touchdown reception, and Meadows was just warming up, hitting Conner Loveless for a 14-yard score. In all, Meadows would go on to complete five of six passes for 66 yards with three touch- downs. Jagar Dent provided the longest touchdown of the night for the Chargers with a 35-yard bolt up the middle. After the midpoint, the scrimmage provided opportu- nity for junior varsity players to see action. Crawford Coun- ty would muster a couple of scores, but the younger Char- gers kept their foot on the ped- al, with Braden Howald at quar- terback throwing touchdown passes to Trenton Richardson and Grant Boyd. Alex Gray add- ed another long touchdown run with a twenty yarder. Crawford County ended the contest by punching it in from two yards out. Coach Brashear credited the work his team had put in the weight room over the off-season, saying "the im- provements, first of all, start in the weight room. I attribute a lot of the improvement to the fact that we have gotten bigger, stronger and faster and have worked our tails off in the weight room". A sentiment that was echoed by Braden Howald when asked about his team's biggest improvements af- ter the game, "definitely the weight room, we've gotten a lot stronger and faster". The Chargers officially open the season Friday night at home against Riverton Park. Howald said he has already reviewed film on next week's opponent, "I know that they made it to the sectional cham- pionship last year. They have a standout tailback, number 24. We'll have to key in on stop- ping him". The Chargers' fu- ture is looking bright heading into their first game. They are scheduled to play at 7 p.m. EST on Friday at Weathers field.
