Born in Grove City, Pennsylvania on November 20, 1943 he was the son of the late Harold Lee and Marian Viola Montgomery Renick. In addition to his parents, Don is preceded in death by his brother, H. Bruce Renick. He is survived by his wife, Sandra Brumbaugh Renick; his son, Patrick Renick (Denise); three grandchil- dren; and Don's sister, Barbara Truran. The family will hold a memorial service to honor Don's life at a later date in Pennsylvania. Gene was born in Shelby, NC on December 19, 1946, to George Carl Cox and Dessie Roberts Cox. Gene was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Carl Lester Cox. He is survived by his wife, Sherri, three daugh- ters, and their husbands: Amy Harrelson (Robert); Jennifer Owens (Reid); and Erin Farrington (Colt); former son-in-law, Cliff Johnson; brother-in-law, Mark Lee; and six grandchildren. The Celebration of Gene's Life was held June 11, 2022 at Boiling Springs Baptist Church. A private graveside service was held at Elizabeth Baptist Church. MAROLYN WHITAKER DAVISON Marolyn Whitaker Davison, 85, of Shelby, NC, went to be with her Lord on June 7, 2022. Marolyn was born in the Pleasant Church commu- nity on May 27, 1937 with her twin sister Carolyn. Preceding her in death were her parents, Shull and Ever Whitaker. She is survived by her husband, Joseph R. Davison Sr.; three children: daughter, Beth Davison Walker, and husband Neal; son, Joseph R. Davison Jr., and wife Jill; daughter, Janie Davison Hardin, and husband Mike; and six grandchildren. Funeral Service was held June 10, 2022 at Westview Baptist Church in Shelby, NC with Rev. HERBED SPINACH Jim Champion 10 oz. frozen spinach, chopped 1 can cream of mushroom soup 1 c. Cheddar cheese, shredded ¼ c. onion, grated 1 clove garlic, finely chopped 1 c/ herb-seasoned stuffing ¼ c. butter, melted Preheat oven to 350 de- grees. Cook spinach in boil- ing water, drain and press out as much liquid as pos- sible. In a large bowl, com- bine soup, cheese, onion, and garlic. Add spinach and blend well. Pour into a greased baking dish. Toss stuffing mix with butter and sprinkle over dish. Bake for about 30 minutes. SQUASH PATTIES Louise Lynch 2 cups raw yellow squash, grated ½ med. onion, grated 2 tsp. sugar 6 tsp. flour 1 tsp. Salt Dash of pepper Mix all ingredients together and cook on hot greased griddle like pancakes. Barely salt after cooking and don't let griddle get too hot. May also fry in hot oil by dipping tablespoon at a time. Brown on both sides. Drain on paper towels. Serves 4. 24 HOUR SLAW Louise Dover 1 ½ quart shredded cabbage 2 med. carrots 2 med. onions 2 med. green peppers Liquid for slaw 1 cup vinegar 1 cup sugar 1 cup water 1 tsp. mustard seed 1 tsp. salt Mix liquid, add salt and mustard seed. Bring to boil. Let cool. Mix vegetables and liquid. Pack in jars, covered dish or Ziplock bag. Let stand in refrigera- tor 24 hours before serving. Good for 2 weeks when kept refrigerator. CUBE STEAK AND GRAVY Jerry Tessneer 1 lb. cube steak 1 cup flour Salt and pepper to taste 1 can cream of mushroom soup 1 can cream of chicken soup Flour and salt and pepper your cube steak. Then fry it until it is brown on both sides. Put your soups in a large pot. Mix it well and put your cube steak in the soup and let it simmer for about 1 hour. It will melt in your mouth. 2 tablespoons cornstarch 1-3/4 cups chicken broth 1 tablespoon soy sauce 1-1/4 lbs. skinless, boneless chicken breast halves, cut into strips 5 cups cut up vegetables (broccoli, peppers, carrots, mushrooms, zuchini, squash baby corn) 1 teaspoon fresh ginger 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder 3 cups prepared rice • Stir the cornstarch, broth and soy sauce in a small bowl until the mixture is smooth. • Spray a 12-inch skillet with vegetable cooking spray and heat over medium- high heat for 1 minute. Add the chicken and stir-fry done. Remove the chicken from skillet. • Add the vegetables, ginger and garlic powder to the skillet. Stir-fry until the vegetables are tender-crisp. • Stir the cornstarch mixture in the skillet. Cook and stir until the mixture boils and thickens. Return the chicken to the skillet and cook until the chicken is cooked through. Serve the chicken mixture over rice. Chicken & Vegetable Stir-Fry
