The Press-Dispatch Wednesday, March 30, 2022 A-5 OBITUARIES LEON THOMAS SMITH Leon "Tommy" Thom- as Smith, 51, of Petersburg, passed away March 24, 2022, in Winslow. He was born April 17, 1970, in Gary, to Leon and Sandra (Sipes) Smith. He was a heavy equipment operator at the Solar Sources Coal Mine for many years. He loved spending time with his kids, grandkids and friends. His hobbies included being outside, mowing, working on vehicles in the garage and helping others in need. He was a proud and avid supporter of Donald Trump. He is survived by his wife, Angie Hasenour-Smith; son, Caleb Hasenour; daughters, Korie ( Johnny) Long, Sa- mantha (Craig) Huddlestun, Tristan Smith, Taylor Searl and Gabrielle Hasenour; mother, Sandra Smith; broth- ers, Richard (Sherry) Myers and Jerry Myers; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Leon H. Smith. Visitation was from 2-6 p.m. EDT on Tuesday, March 29, 2020, at Harris Funeral Home in Petersburg. JUDY DOADES (TR AYLER) WOLVEN Judy Wolven, 63, passed away March 22, 2022. She was born in Washing- ton on September 20, 1958, to Kenneth and Edith (Hedrick) Trayler. On July 1, 1977, she married Gary L. Wolven. He preceded her in death on July 4, 2017. She graduated from the Vincennes University School of Nursing and most recently worked at the Loogootee Nurs- ing Center. She was an avid mushroom hunter, and loved gardening and knitting. She was known to be an excellent cook. Chili was her specialty. Judy's favorite time was spent being with her family. She was a devoted mom, sister, aunt and great aunt. Those who now miss her and mourn her passing include her son, Darrell Wolven, of Wash- ington; her brother, Brent Tray- ler; and her sisters, Kathy Bezy and Denise (Pat) Strange. She is now reunited with her husband, as well as other loved ones who preceded her in death: parents, Kenneth and Edith Trayler; siblings, Dar- rell Hedrick, Michael Tray- ler, Dale Trayler, Deroy Lynn Trayler and Georgia Catt; in- fant niece, Thauna Trayler; and nephews, Jeremy Wolven and Christopher Strange. Petersburg Lions Club set up a food trailer at the Presbyterian Church parking lot on Monday in hopes of raising money for school classrooms and purchasing eyeglasses. BARRY ALAN PIRKLE Barry Alan Pirkle, 69, of Winslow, passed away March 29, 2022 in Newburgh. He was born November 8, 1952 to Odell Forrest and Hilda Lou- ise Pirkle in Evansville. Barry graduated from Winslow High School in 1970 and went on to earn an undergraduate BA from Oakland City University and a Masters from Universi- ty of Evansville. Later he re- ceived two Doctoral Degrees, one from Indiana University and the other from Spaulding University in Louisville, Ky. Barry loved to travel and teach. He taught at Brecken- ridge, Washington, Pike Cen- tral Middle and High Schools, and was a supervisor for Gib- son Pike Warrick (GPW ) Spe- cial Ed Services. He will be missed by his loved ones and those whose lives he touched. Barry is survived by his wife, Renee ( Woods) Pirkle; sister, Nancy ( Jeff ) Bolin of Winslow and their children, Bryan, Christopher, and An- drew; his brother, Philip ( Jan) Pirkle of Indianapolis and their children, Rachel Bolin of South Carolina and Kathie Walther of Chicago, IL; great nieces and nephews; and nu- merous cousins and family and friends. Graveside services for Bar- ry will take place at 10 a.m. EDT on Thursday, March 31, at Pleasant Ridge Cemetery in Campbelltown. Pastor Don Fausnaugh will officiate. Harris Funeral Home is en- trusted with care. MICHAEL JOSEPH SER AFINI Michael Joseph Serafini II, 22, of Carmi, passed away on Tuesday, March 22, 2022, at SIH Memorial Hospital in Car- bondale, Ill. He was born on July 14, 1999, the son of Michael and Christina (Beadles) Serafini, in Vincennes. He was a 2018 graduate of Carmi White County High School in Carmi. He worked in maintenance at the Carbon- dale Towers. He loved watch- ing movies and celebrating holidays, but most of all, he enjoyed being with his fami- ly and friends. He is survived by his par- ents, Michael and Chrissy Serafini, of Carmi, Ill.; two sisters, Mia Christine Serafi- ni and Mara Lucia Serafini, of Carmi, Ill.; grandfather, Joe (Nancy) Serafini, of Freeport, Ill.; step-grandfather, Richard Dosher, of Carmi, Ill.; and sev- eral aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Brenda Dosher, and Danny and Julie Beadles. Funeral services were at 3 p.m. CDT on Tuesday, March 29, 2022, at Campbell Funer- al Home in Carmi. Burial fol- lowed at White County Memo- rial Garden. Visitation was from 1 p.m. CDT until service time on Tuesday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contribu- tions can be made in Michael's memory to the Epilepsy Foun- dation of Greater Southern Il- linois and will be accepted at Campbell Funeral Home in Carmi, who is in charge of ar- rangements.
