Middle row: Aidan Collins, Jonathan Sanchez, Ethan Mann, Chase Denton and Griffin Boyd. Back row: Conner Loveless, Dallas Reutepohler, Peyton Chanley, Tyler DeCoursey, Blaine Barnett and Carter Blackwell. By Andy Heuring The boys track team has some good balance in their numbers and some newcom- ers to the track scene they hope will translate to suc- cess. Last year the boys team placed sixth in the 13-team Princeton sectional. They have a solid group of upperclassmen with four se- niors and six juniors to go with their nine freshmen and one sophomore. Senior Wyatt Frasure is back this year after not com- peting in track since his eighth grade year. Frasure is a multi-sport athlete. "We would have loved to have had him his first three year of high school. We are excited he decided to come out this year," said Charger Coach Chris Kramer. "If you have watched him on the football field you know he is fast. He is an explosive person," said Kramer. He expects Frasure to compete in the 100, 200 and long jump. "He should have some success there," said Kremer. He is joined by senior Sam Coleman. Coleman is coming off of knee surgery, but in prac- tice he is already throwing farther this year than he did last year, "without doing full throws. So when he gets in- to the full swing of things he should be very competitive," said Kramer. Kramer said the shot put will be Coleman's strength. Senior Adam Sanchez will also be throwing. He partici- pated as a freshman and then took two years off. Dayne Gladish is anoth- er senior who has taken a couple of years off before re- joining his senior year. "He ran as a freshman and took a couple of years off. He will be running distance events from the 800 to 3200. Kramer said his junior class should be a really good source of points for the Char- gers. Junior Peyton Chanley will be running distance events for the Chargers. He placed sixth in the 1600 last year as a soph- omore in the Princeton sec- tional with a time of 5:01.63 and fourth in the 3200 in 11:01.41. "He had a good cross-country season. He fin- ished the sea- son strong last year in track and has been training pretty hard. We expect some good things from him," said Kram- er. Brayden Howald and Grif- fin Boyd will both be pole vaulting and running sprint events for the Chargers. Howald finished fifth in the sectional in pole vault last year with a height of 11'6". Kramer said he expects both to run a leg on the 4x 100 relay and Howald may run hurdles as well. Konner Simmons is a thrower for the Chargers. "He will help out in both events. All the throwers have been improving from where they were last year," said Kramer. Dallas Ruetephohler ran the 1600 and 3200 last year and the 4x800 relay. "We have a good core of young freshmen and soph- omores who will help us in the distance events. They ran cross country this sea- son. They got better and a lot of them are in swimming and they have transitioned Wyatt Frasure Track Adan Sanchez Sam Coleman Dane Gladish Chargers track returns good balance in their ranks well back into track. Hope- fully they will help us fill in the 4x800 relay and contrib- ute in the distance events," said Kramer. He mentioned Blain Barnett, Carter Black- well and Tyler DeCoursey in that group. Ethan Mann is a freshman who will help out as well in the sprints. He was third in the high jump in middle school last year. Kramer said the goals this year are more geared toward the individuals getting bet- ter as the year progresses. "It is nice to win dual meets and invitationals, but that is not necessarily our goal. We want everyone to be at their best at the end of the sea- son." He said instead of hav- ing guys compete in three and four events every meet to get points, some nights they may drop an event and focus on one or two events. "By the end of the season their legs are dead. We want kids to save their legs and have them ready at the end of the sea- son," said Kramer. It is nice to win du- al meets and invita- tionals, but that is not necessarily our goal. We want everyone to be at their best at the end of the season." –Coach Chris Kramer Sophomore Ruby Sallee re- turns and will compete in the sprints and pole vault. Emma Hunt, a freshman, will compete in the throw events. "She played basket- ball and Coach Eric Knight talked her into coming out. She is tall and a good athlete. Really all of our throwers have been doing a good job so far," said Kramer. Kramer said his goal for the kids are to do their best each night. "I want them to say, 'I want to go out and do my best, even if I get beat by the per- son next to me,'" said Kramer. Because of their numbers, team wins will be hard, but the kids Pike Central have should do well.
