Find delectable treats and more at Chocolate Bliss & Kitchen Essentials Chocolates, candies and the handiest kitchen gadgets are the main fare in Choco- late Bliss & Kitchen Essen- tials, located for more than eight years on the northwest corner of the Square in Jasper Square. Ann Knies opened Chocolate Bliss 16 years ago on Oct. 28, which is National Chocolate Day. She said, "Starting as a gourmet chocolate shop in 2005, we have branched out to offer something unique and special to our community. Our kitchen store is full of the coolest gadgets, helping you to furnish your home, while enjoying delectable choco- lates. Our current store is our third location in 16 years, due to outgrowing the previ- ous two. "We've been in this loca- tion for over eight years and it feels like home. I've always wanted to own a business and as I was making some chang- es in my life, I thought what is one more? "So, after some planning, I turned in my resignation, one of the scariest and most excit- ing days of my life. My pre- vious positions gave me valu- able experience that helped me succeed in owning my own business. I knew I want- ed to bring something differ- ent to the area, not just com- pete with an already existing business. When I traveled for business, I frequently brought back gifts and I focused on what were some of those items I brought back that we did not have in our area. A re- ally good specialty chocolate was one of those things. "Paying attention and lis- tening to customers' needs helped grow the business. I still look for the voids in prod- uct selection that we have in our area. Just because we live in small cities and towns, doesn't mean we can't have nice things. "We have a 12-foot can- dy case, where you can pick your favorite chocolates: Tur- tles, seas salt caramels, choc- olate-covered nuts, truffles, peanut butter squares, just to name a few. "There are so many choic- es. Christmas is especially magical. We have nostalgic feel-good candies and choco- lates, chocolate stars, ribbon candy, chocolate Santas from Germany, just to name a few. Then there is the fudge. "We make more than a ton of fudge every year. We have a large selection of whole bean coffees, hot chocolates and tea, Stonewall Kitchen jams, pancake mixes, salsas, pep- per jellies, digs and soup mix- es. Charcuterie boards con- tinue to be popular. We car- ry Boar's Head meats, chees- es and condiments to make an impressive display." Kitchen Essentials carries Wusthof knives, bakeware brands like USA pan and Air Bake, cookware, grilling items, bar ware, dish towels and every gadget imaginable are there to choose from. Knies said, "I've been blessed with a wonderful fam- ily and staff, which are fam- ily, too. I have two children, a son, Brook, and his beauti- ful wife, Melanie. A daughter, Cassy, and wonderful son-in- law, Luke. They have given me four grandchildren: Zane, Rayln, Mae and Jack. "They are so special, and yes, they get whatever they want in the store. I've been blessed with the best staff and customers." Knies explains, "For now, it's going to be two months in- volving me all the time. This is what I signed up for. I am off more in the summer, but right now is the time for business- es. The fourth quarter is big." She added, "This is our 17th Christmas and I'm thrilled to be providing sweet treats and kitchen wares to our wonder- ful customers." NEW HUNTINGBURG LOCATION Chocolate Bliss recently opened a new store in Hunt- ingburg, located on Historic Fourth Street. The store fo- cuses on chocolates, candy and consumable products.
