Braelyn Barnett opens the fifth grade graduation ceremony with prayer. These fifth graders are playing UNO during their end of the year fun day at the Winslow Community Center. Kaydee Sims, Vivien Frasure, Zoey Barrett and Hiedi Opel are excited fifth graders as they smile for the camera. The fifth graders enjoyed a fun day at the Community Center after their gradua- tion ceremonies. Cherokee Davis, Braelyn Barnett, Serenity Barrett, Parker Goep- pner, Vivien Frasure, Holly Beck and Bryce Corbin dance to the YMCA song. Taylin Bailey was the checker tourney winner in Ms. Aldridge's fourth grade classroom. Kylee Nielsen was the runner-up. They are happy about their prizes. The Betty Ann McCullough Education Sem- inar and Convocation Grants Program, the Betty Ann Mc- Cullough Enrichment Project Grants Program, and the Bet- ty Ann McCullough Teaching Achievement Grant Program provide funding for education- al programs in Gibson County. These programs are made possible through the gener- ous support of Betty Ann Mc- Cullough, who was an edu- cator for the North Gibson School Corporation for more than 40 years, and a strong supporter of education in her community. Along with a num- ber of civic memberships, she was a member of the Gibson County Community Foun- dation Advisory Board. She passed away in 1997. Through the three pro- grams, grants totaling $27,990 were awarded to the following organizations: South Gibson School Cor- poration received a $1,000 grant for use by Betty Ann McCullough Teaching Achievement Grant recipient Jane Toth. Toth is a teacher at Gibson Southern High School and plans to participate in a special Advanced Placement training course over the sum- mer to help her students pre- pare for their AP exams. Princeton Community In- termediate School received a $1,000 grant for use by Bet- ty Ann McCullough Teaching Achievement Grant recipient Brooke Reed. Reed teaches fifth grade mathematics. Ac- cording to her peers, she al- ways works to find creative ways to make challenging lessons attainable for all stu- dents. Oakland City University was awarded $ 6,000 for the Acorn Academy. The acade- my provides weekly tutoring sessions for East Gibson coun- ty students in grades kinder- garten through sixth grade. Oakland City Columbia Township Public Library re- ceived $540 for the Read and Feed Program. Read and Feed is an innovative story time pro- gram that combines literacy with cooking, while address- ing the delicate issue of food insecurity. Lyles Station Historic Pres- ervation Corporation received a $ 9,600 grant for A Night at the Museum. This program will allow patrons to enjoy an interactive and educational night of history as they expe- rience history coming to life in a lantern-guided journey through time. Princeton Community In- termediate School received $5,000 for the Carl Anderson Writing Seminar. The goal of the seminar is to equip teach- ers with tools to help improve students' writing scores. Princeton Public Library received $4,000 for Commu- nity STEAM Enrichment Programs. STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Math) Programs will provide hands-on activities and informational seminars for community members with primary focus of ages 16 +. Saints Peter and Paul School was awarded $ 850 for the Move to Succeed Pro- gram. This grant will be used to purchase classroom items that will help enhance stu- dent academic environment so that they will be able to ab- sorb more of their grade level curriculum.
