Poplar Street, Petersburg www.UebelhorGM.com Jasper • 1-800-937-8721 CHEVROLET Shut out Vincennes 7-0 Sophomore Chloe Wil- liams, backed by Karley Ka- vanaugh, Hallie Bailey, Mal- lory Hickey, Alyna Sharp, Brailey Mills and the rest of the Lady Chargers, con- tributed to a going away sec- tional title win over the Vin- cennes Lady Alices. The girls blasted the Lady Alices for a total of 11 hits, including a Williams line drive homer to centerfield, scoring Lex- ie Onyett in the first. Up 3-0, Williams struck out the first Vincennes batter, allowed her first hit of the game, struck out the next batter and then out number three grounded out to Karley Ka- vanaugh at short. With two out in the sec- ond, singles by Madelyn Fis- cus and Brailey Mills were followed by Kenzie Powell's walk, and then a fly out to right field of Karley Kavana- ugh's bat ended the threat. The top of the third was a one out situation, with Wil- liams doubling to right and then Alyna Sharp doubling to center, with Welch held at third. Hallie Bailey singled to center to score Delaney Welch, who was pinch run- ning for Williams. Mallory Hickey hit a sacrifice fly to center, scoring Alyna Sharp for the 5 -0 lead. The Lady Chargers add- ed two more late insurance runs, including a Karley Ka- vanaugh sacrifice fly, scoring Madelyn Fiscus in the sixth. It was three up, a strike out, a pop fly to Lexie Onyett at third and a fanning of senior Kali Haynes at the top of the line up that sealed the sec- tional championship. Chloe Williams fanned a dozen, while Delaney Amthis, her Vincennes coun- terpart gave up 11 hits, sev- en runs and walked five. Vincennes had six scattered hits, while Lady Chargers Alyna Sharp and Chloe Wil- liams doubled, and Williams had the first inning homer. She retained zeros in the runs and walks columns, and helped herself with two hits and two walks. Kenzie Powell sacrificed twice, and Karley Kavanaugh and Wil- liams each had two RBIs, while Bailey and Hickey had one apiece. Hallie Bailey, Madelyn Fis- cus, Mallory Hickey and Al- yna Sharp all had stolen bas- es, and Brailey Mills, Ken- zie Powell, Karley Kavana- ugh, Chloe Williams and Madelyn Fiscus drew walks. Brailey Mills led in the hit- ting department with three, followed by Chloe Williams, Alyna Sharp and Madelyn Fiscus with two each. The Vincennes Lady Alices had four errors, while the Lady Chargers committed one in the bottom of the second, but a sacrifice bunt, ground out and then strikeout swinging courtesy of Williams ended the threat. A seven-run third inning in- volved nine Chargers and featured an Alyna Sharp two-run homer to left field, with Delaney Welch run- ning for Williams, who had singled to left. From there, singles for Hallie Bailey, Mallory Hickey and Bailey Mills, walks for Madelyn Fiscus and Kenzie Powell, and then a double off the bat of Lexie Onyett scored Mills and Powell. Williams delivered 63 pitches with 40 strikes over the five innings. She allowed a double and a single, walking none, and had five fly outs, six ground outs, and three strike- outs. Kaitlin Hill took the loss in 2.1 innings, allowing 10 hits, eight earned runs, with one walk, one homerun and a pair of strikeouts. Allison Hill finished the 1.2 innings with four hits, two earned runs, two walks and no strikeouts. Both teams were errorless and both teams put the ball in play, but the Lady Chargers swung the bats and hit the holes for 14 hits and 10 earned runs, with just two strike- outs and three walks. Kenzie Powell, Karley Kavana- ugh, Lexie Onyett and Alyna Sharp were good for two RBIs, and Brai- ley Mills and Sophie Carnahan had one each.
