B-4 Wednesday, March 17, 2021 The Press-Dispatch Methodist Lutheran Church of Christ Catholic Independent Independent Christian Christian Church of God Baptist Sometimes God removes our trial, and it isn't neces- sarily wrong to ask Him to do that. But often the trials re- main, and when they do, we should accept them and ask God to teach us from them. Peter Marshall once put it, "God will not permit troubles to come upon us, unless He has a specific plan by which great blessing can come out of the difficulty." It is through suffering, the tests and trials of life, that we can draw near to God. When God tests you, it is a good time for you test Him just as much as your trials have rendered necessary. If at any time you have no church to attend, feel free to join us for services. Your pres- ence will be deeply appreciat- ed and you will leave being blessed. May God bless each and ev- eryone. Mark Wade, Deacon FIRST CHRISTIAN CHURCH 1400 E. Main Street Petersburg 812-354-6775 One of my favorite lines from a book, comes from the Chronicles of Narnia by C.S. Lewis. Lucy asks their new friend Mr. Beaver, "Is he safe? " inquiring about this king they had heard of named Aslan. Mr. Beaver, pithy an- swer, "Oh no he's not safe, but he's good." Sometimes I won- der if we are just hoping that life in Christ will be safe. We can come to him, get salva- tion, feel good, and eventual- ly go to heaven when the time comes. However, that's rare- ly the case. Imagine the rich young rule or the other young man who came begging to fol- low Jesus, but once confront- ed by the reality that the fol- lowers of Jesus lacked a bed and shelter, or even that one would have to sell everything he had. The truth is, following Jesus wasn't safe then, and it isn't safe now. Still to this day when he calls a man, he bids him, come and die. Following Jesus means actively dying to ourselves and living for him. We have to decide that there is no safe shallow end follow- ing him. To enjoy a rich life in Christ, we have to cut the rope. On Sunday, March 14, JCFF ordained 10 people for teach- ing children, jail ministry and one baptism. "Do you not know that the unrighteous will not enter the kingdom of heaven. Don't be deceived. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sod- omites, nor thieves, nor covet- ous, nor drunkards, nor revil- ers, nor extortioners, will in- herit the kingdom of heaven" (I Corinthians 6:9,10). "If a man lies with a male as he lies with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination. They shall sure- ly be put to death. Their blood shall be upon them" (Levit- icus 20 :13). I didn't say this, it's what the Bible says. Take heed to the word of God. "Likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of a woman, burned in their lust for one another, men with men committing what is shame- ful, and receiving in them- selves the penalty of their er- ror which was due" (Romans 1:27). People water down the word of God. They want to some- how leave some parts out, if it doesn't suit their needs. They don't want to be preached to about hell and damnation. But they will listen if it tickles their ear. Beware of false teachings. God doesn't want anyone to go to the Lake of Fire, that's why he sent his Son Jesus to re- deem us of our sin. All He asks is for us to have fellowship with Him and be- lieve in his Son Jesus, and love each other, as we love ourselves. My prayer is that you will do this and we can all be to- gether in our Father's king- dom someday. Peace to you. "So they (the Sadducees) arrested Peter, John and the man who was healed and kept them in jail overnight. But during these few afternoon hours between the man's mi- raculous healing and their ar- rest, Peter and John already had convinced about 5,000 more people to believe their message about Jesus" (Acts 4:3-4, VOICE). A couple of hours, on one afternoon, Peter and John preached Jesus and saw about 5000 saved. How many hours have I spent mindlessly watch- ing T V or being distracted by other things? If I set my heart on things above, I could allow God to work through me to bring countless people to Je- sus. The Spirit of God says, "Wake up." Wake up to the op- portunities. Wake up to those who are dead in this world. Those who are dead to the living God, because they don't have His Spirit living within them. God's desire is that we be a living sacrifice; holy and devoted to God (Roman 12:1). His plans, His purposes, His pursuits ever present in our minds. Glory to God in the highest, peace on earth, good will toward people. That's the Father's heart. Check the website for loca- tion and time for upcoming events, www.livingfc.org. Mailing address: P.O. "And after him was Shamgar the son of Anath, which slew of the Philistines six hundred men with an ox goad: and he also delivered Israel" ( Judg- es 3:31). Shamgar's story is short. He is mentioned in only two verses: Judges 3:31 and 5:6. But we can learn much from his shining example. Shamgar did not have to wait until he had a sword or a spear or a bat- tle-bow to fight. He took as a weapon the thing that was in his hand and turned it against the enemy. Similarly, God wants whatever resources that are at your disposal. He asks, "What is that in your hand? " (Exodus 4:2) and Moses' rod, Dorcas' needle, Shamgar's ox goad, David's sling and stone, Joshua's ram's horn, the lad's five loaves and two fishes ,and the widow's little can of oil are all that He requires for His mightiest victories and His grandest ministries.
