Poplar Street, Petersburg Will the 60's be repeated in 2021? There seems to be a revival of protest and a new revo- lution is under way. It includes both politics and religion. The revolution of the 60's seemed to for- ever change the moral conduct of many people. The sexual revolution changed marriage and the traditional family. Today many live togeth- er without being married and our liberal politi- cians are pushing for gay marriage. Millions of children in America do not live with both of their biological parents. The Internet has introduced pornography and promotes all kinds of immoral behavior. Our society has tasted the bitter fruits of broken homes and shattered lives. The word 'values', with its true meaning, is something of the past. In our public schools children are of- ten taught to disregard the ideals and values of their parents. A fter a few generations of rebel- lion and a disregard for values society begins to rot at the core. This is why we have seen months of violence and vandalism in many cities. Our liberal media daily promotes immorali- ty and a culture without rules. Our left wing poli- ticians and their followers have taken to the streets to protest whatever they disagree with in govern- ment, schools and even the workplace. A game without rules is no game at all. At a time in our his- tory when our world is on fire, with protest and our leaders have lost their way, there will be trouble. Many of our teens attend church, but in lib- eral college most drop out. Those who do at- tend often are entertained with little preaching of the Gospel. Most of our educators promote a new set of beliefs for the students. The Ameri- can way, to them, is the wrong way. When a na- tion forgets God there is always judgment. Religious Viewpoint By Dr. Clyde Dupin See MINUTES on 5 The truth of Christ Minutes with the Bible By Pastor Cornelius R. Stam "As the truth of Christ is in me…" (II Cor. 11:10). How often St. Paul, in his letters, speaks with an oath! "God is my witness" (Rom. 1:9), "As God is true" (II Cor. 1:18), "Behold, before God, I lie not" (Gal. 1:20), "God is my record" (Phil. 1:8), "I speak the truth in Christ, and lie not" (I Tim. 2:7), etc., etc. As Dean Howson has said: "When Paul makes a solemn statement under the sense of God's presence, he does not hesitate to express this." But had not others spoken under the sense of God's presence? Of course they had, yet Paul calls God to witness far more often than any other Bible writer. Why is this? The answer is Hello folks, we have put another week into the log of life and I feel as though I have learned something new every day. An elder friend told me that along with learning from his life expe- riences he opens the dictionary to learn a new word each day. He was a smart man to begin with and his new word a day kept him getting smarter with each new word. I'm not sure if I would have the dedi- cation to do as he did with learning a new word every day. But I do my best to get smarter about life and how to get by without too many upsets. It seems as though life has a habit of repeating itself. If you have learned from the first time you went through it, the second time through should be easier. Both of our grandkids love being outdoors and they are almost impossible to get back into the house. It was pretty enough last week, the grand- son and I spent a couple of afternoons in the shop trying to get ready for the spring and summer season. It always surprises me to find something I have been looking for as we clean up the shop. It becomes a treasure hunt sometimes. It seems as I get older I still think I can do as I did a few years back. Let me tell you the mind is willing but body does its best to say no so you might not need all those tools you have amassed up for all these years. My guitar sure sounds better with a new set of strings on it. Tony Rothrock puts my strings on. I think I could probably do the job, but he makes things so neat when he is done. I played a song for our memorial services this week. Our district has lost 30 members during this fiscal year due to death. The song "Who's going to fill their shoes" by George Jones was sang by myself and those CHURCH CHURCH Notes Notes Notes Baptist Baptist Baptist Assembly of God RIVER OF LIFE 342 E.
