Poplar Street, Petersburg PATRIOTS NIP PCMS SWIMMERS By James Capozella A road trip to Heritage Hills this past Thursday resulted in two narrow losses for the Pike Central Middle School swimmers. The arch-rival Pocket Athletic Conference foe garnered enough early with first- and sec- ond-place finishes to hold off both Pike Cen- tral teams in the final seven events. The girls fell to Heritage Hills 86 -81 and the boys lost 87-81 for a combined team score of 173-162. Lady Chargers captured four firsts and the boys took two relays and three individual events. Ty DeCoursey, Ethan Mann, Awstyn Luff and Jacoby Smith claimed a first in the 200 medley relay, and Andrew Johnson, Mann, Blaine Barnett and Xander Parker won the 200 free relay. Parker, Smith, Johnson and Luff took second in the 400 relay, and Bar- nett, Carter Blackwell, DeCoursey and Jacob Pauw placed third. Luff won the 100 IM, with DeCoursey sec- ond. Decoursey took the 50 back, with Pauw second. Mann won the 50 breast, with John- son third and Tyler Collins fourth. Smith was second in the 100 free and Luff placed second in the 50 fly, with Jaden Nolan fourth. Pauw added a third in the 200 free, Blackwell was fourth in the 50 free, and Julian Hay and Xan- der Parker placed fourth and fifth in diving. Xavery Weisman won the 100 IM, with Alexis Oswalt second and Kylie Meyer fourth. Weisman took second in the 50 breast, Rain- ey third and Elle Readle sixth. Kayleigh Byrd won the girls diving and the 100 free, with Query second and Deffendoll fourth. Jack- ie Berry was first in the 50 free, Bailey Rain- ey third and Woods fifth. Kelsea Query fin- ished second in the 200 free and L.J. Deffen- doll was fifth. Berry was second in the 50 back, Easton Bailey third and Ellen Worley sixth. Oswalt, Byrd, Berry and Weisman took first in the 400 relay, and Query, Mann, Def- fendoll and Bailey were fourth. Berry, Weis- man, Oswalt and Byrd took second in the 200 medley relay, and Bailey, Rainey, Lillian Mann and Kylie Meyer were fourth. Bailey, Meyer, Rainey and Mann were second in the 200 free relay, and Woods, Nevaeh McGuire, Elle Readle and Christina Wenzel were fifth. Jasper Wildcats dominate swim triangle The Charger swim teams managed a first and second in boys' diving and six other seconds in a meet dominated by Jasper last Tuesday. The hosts garnered 19 firsts, while Pike Central's Xander Parker won the diving (49.80) and teammate Julian Hay was sec- ond (35). The Jasper Lady Wildcats won the event with 160 points to 79 for Pike Central and 59 for Tecumseh. The Jasper boys scored 142 points to Pike Central's 100 and Tecum- seh's 44. The Lady Chargers were led by Jackie Ber- ry taking second in the 50 free and third in the 50 backstroke. Kelsea Query claimed third in the 200 free, Xavery Weisman was third in the 100 IM and Alexis Oswalt was third in the 50 fly. The 200 medley relay team consisting of Berry, Weisman, Oswalt and Ky- lie Meyer placed third and Oswalt, Kayleigh Byrd, Berry and Weisman were third in the 400 free relay. Charger Awstyn Luff was .05 seconds out of first in the 50 fly and a little over a sec- ond out of first in the 100 IM. Jacoby Smith was third in the 50 free, Ethan Mann placed third in the 200 free, Parker was third in the 100 free and Ty DeCoursey was third in the fifty back. Parker, Smith, Pauw and Luff placed sec- ond in the 400 free relay and DeCoursey, Mann, Luff and Smith took second in the 200 medley relay. Andrew Johnson, Blaine Barnett, Ethan Mann and Smith added sec- ond-place points in the 200 free relay. Bailey, Meyer, Rainey and Byrd were fourth in the 200 free relay, Rainey took fourth in the 50 breast and Bailey fifth in the 50 back. Query finished fourth in the 100 free and fifths were had by Oswalt in the 100 IM, Lillian Mann in the 50 fly, Byrd in diving (49.10) and L.J. Deffendoll in the 200 free. Grapplers 11th at PAC Goins fourth at PAC By James Capozella Pike Central middle schoolers had five wres- tlers place in the top eight at the 14-team Pock- et Athletic Conference championships this past weekend. Mt. Vernon Junior High won the event (273) edging Heritage Hills (263) and Tell City (259.5). Pike Central was 11th with 47 points. Hayden Goins (3-6) advanced on two byes in the 275 -pound class, fell to Raider Jimmy Dubon (19 -2) at 1:52 and then lost to Mt. Ver- non's Ethan Russell in the third-place match. Gage Morton (6 -6, 95) and Jayden Bolen (5 -6, 175) both finished sixth overall, and Aksel On- yett (4-8, 132) and Billy Like (6 -6, 102) placed eighth in the 14-team Pocket Athletic Confer- ence. Morton lost by a 4-0 decision to Boonville's Logan Whyte, collected a bye and then won by fall over Mt. Vernon's Brendon Hubbard at 1:39. Morton then won over Gibson Southern's Noal Kiesel by medical forfeit but lost a fifth- place match to Whyte by a 6 -0 decision. Jayden Bolin received a bye, then lost by fall to Raider Noah Owens (19 -2) and pinned Rebel Nathan Stephens in :27 after a second forfeit. Bolin then lost to Washington's Brody Chestnut by fall in the fifth-place match. Onyett placed eighth with a loss to Gibson Southern's Kemper Pennington, took a for- feit, then pinned Tecumseh's Carter Smith (0 :42) and fell to Washington's Gavyn Payne. Onyett then lost to Pennington by fall in the seventh-place match. Billy Like pinned Wash- ington's Holden McCarthy at 0 :56 in the first round, but fell to Patriot Dalton Pledger (18 - 2) before pinning Rebel Aleek Byrns in 1:42. Raider Jack Boeglin pinned Like in 1:19 and then Like lost to Boonville's Landon Boyer by pin (3:05) in the seventh-place match. Jacob Harker (85) lost to Boonville's Wyatt Vincent by fall, received a bye and then lost to Washington's Eden McPherson (11-5) by pin (1:45). Brodey Daffron (110) lost by pin to Boon- ville's Mason Jones, got a bye and lost by fall to Patriot Angus Kolley. Kylee Baker (117) was pinned by Rebel Eli Rodgers, received a bye and was pinned by Washington's Jack White- head. Briar Thomas (125) won by fall over Tecumseh's Cole Kirsch (1:59) and then fell to Titan Max Wahl and Washington's Oliver Roe. Shawn Condra (150) lost by fall to Boon- ville's Gage McCoy, got a bye in the consola- tion round one and then lost by fall to Wash- ington's Carter Tolbert. Swimmers post four wins at South Spencer By James Capozella The boys and girls combined for 17 firsts in decisive wins over the South Spencer Rebels and the Forest Park Rangers last week. Both teams won all three relays and the boys post- ed six individual wins and the girls had five. The Charger boys won all but two events and the girls lacked three. The boys accounted for 146 points to 68 for Forest Park and 57 for South Spencer. The La- dy Chargers scored 142 points to 108 for South Spencer and 12 for Forest Park. Jackie Berry, Xavery Weisman, Alexis Os- walt and Kayleigh Byrd won the 200 medley relay, and Easton Bailey, Baylie Rainey, Kylie Meyer and Christina Wenzel were third. Bai- ley, Rainey, Kayleigh Byrd and Lillian Mann won the 200 free relay. Oswalt, Byrd, Berry and Weisman captured the 400 free relay (5:11.38) and Kelsea Query, Meyer, L.T. Deffendoll and Bailey were third. Parker, Smith, Pauw and Luff won the 400 free relay, and Barnett, Carter Blackwell, De- Coursey and Johnson took third-place points. Luff took first in the 100 IM and 50 fly, while Smith claimed the 50 free, Parker the 100 free, Mann the 50 breast and DeCoursey the 50 back. Firsts for the girls included Weisman in the 100 IM and 50 breast, Berry in the 50 free, Os- walt in the 50 fly and Query in the 100 free. Second place finishes included Oswalt in the 100 IM, Rainey in the 50 free and 50 breast, Berry in the 50 back. Mann was second in the 20 free for the boys, DeCoursey was second in the 100 IM, Parker was second in diving and Johnson was second in the 50 breast. Third place finishes included Pauw in the 200 free and 50 back, Blackwell in the 50 free and 100 free, Julian Hay in diving and Nolan in the 50 fly. Third place finishes for the girls included Query in the 200 free, Byrd in diving, Mann in the 50 fly, Deffendoll in the 100 free and Bai- ley in the 50 back.
