Three arrested for driving while intoxicated By Andy Heuring Three people were arrested in Pike County over the last week for driving while intox- icated. An Otwell man was arrest- ed late Saturday night in Ot- well after police spotted him driving without a license plate light. Logan Rex Montgomery, 23, of 5751 E. SR 356, Otwell, was arrested on a charge of operating a vehicle while in- toxicated. Pike County Deputy Sher- iff Cody Jones said he was pa- trolling at about 10 p.m. Sat- urday near the intersection of Highways 56 and 257 when he saw a small truck drive by and the license plate light was out. Jones pulled in behind the truck and said it went over the fog line twice before he stopped it on CR 1000 E. Deputy Jones said when he approached Montgomery to talk with him, he noticed an open case of beer with sever- al cans missing. He then no- ticed Montgomery's speech was slurred and his eyes were glossy. Montgomery failed field sobriety tests and said he had drank about seven beers. Montgomery was taken to the Pike County Jail, where he tested 0.207 percent, which is more than twice the legal lim- it of .08 percent for blood alco- hol content in Indiana. A Jasper man was arrested just past midnight on Tuesday, March 9 after police pulled him over for having his license plate obstructed. Marcus Crowe, 36, of 1323 Newton St., Jasper, was stopped by Pike County Dep- uty Jared Simmons near Ca- to on Highway 56 after Sim- mons said he couldn't read his license plate at 12:15 a.m. Deputy Simmons said when he talked with Crowe, he no- ticed Crow had slurred and muttered speech, poor dex- terity, and had beads of sweat on his face and neck, despite it being 32 degrees outside. Crowe denied using any ille- gal drugs, but failed the field sobriety tests. He was trans- ported to the Daviess Com- munity Hospital, where he te- setd positive for methamphet- amine and amphetamine. Simmons said during a search of Crowe, police found a bottle cap in his pocket that had a crystal-like substance in the cap. It field tested positive for meth. Also during a search of his vehicle, police found a glass smoking device with a burnt crystal-like substance. Crowe was taken to the Pike County Jail, where he was charged with possession of meth, less than five grams, possession of paraphernalia and operating a vehicle while intoxicated (controlled sub- stance). A Jasper woman was arrest- ed for driving while intoxicat- ed after police stopped her for making a turn without using her turn signal at about 2:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 2. Amber Ridener, 39, of 813 Dorbett St., Jasper, was arrest- ed on charges of operating a vehicle while intoxicated (re- fusal) and possession of meth. Indiana State Trooper C. J. Boeckman said he was on pa- trol at about 2:25 a.m. when he saw a car stopped at a stop sign at Madison St., which then turned without using a turn signal. Boeckman said when he walked up to talk to Ridener, he noticed she couldn't sit still in her seat. She told him she didn't have a driver's license and she was looking for her boyfriend, who had taken off walking. Boeckman said Ridener was jumpy and her eyes had rapid sporadic move- ment, and she was jerking her head around. She failed field sobriety tests and refused a chemical test, saying she was on pro- bation. During an inventory of the vehicle, Boeckman said po- lice found about 1.5 grams of a crystal substance in a plastic bag near the center console. According to a probable cause affidavit, Ridener told Boeckman she doesn't do meth and that it was her boy- friend's. She was taken into custody.
