Two lost fumbles in Char- ger territory, an interception and the loss of Braden How- ald to a shoulder injury after a drive-stopping interception were key parts in the grid iron showdown. Howald's late first-half in- terception on the five ended a threat and got the ball to the sideline at the 18. It also side- lined Howald with a game end- ing left shoulder injury. Prior to that, the Chargers had pushed to a 14-10 lead on a second effort by Wyatt Fra- sure rushing from the 12-yard line. The Brown County Ea- gles scored on a run up the middle at 8:57 to reclaim the advantage. Excellent play by several Chargers, including a quar- terback sack by Frasure and a third-and-eight catch by Stephen Krieg led to Char- ger quarterback Lars Utter- back's eight-yard scamper in- to the end zone for the one- point deficit score of 6 -7 right at the end of the first quarter. Utterback was assessed a penalty for spiking the ball in the end zone and it was marked off on the ensuing Charger kickoff. Pike Central held the Brown County Eagles for the quarter, but the Eagles advanced the ball and split the uprights for three on the first series in the second quarter. In the last four minutes of the first half, the Eagles hit pay dirt from the three and then, following a Charger fum- ble, scored with 8:47 remain- ing. A Quade Morton intercep- tion from the 32 brought the Chargers to within 11 points before a missed two-point con- version. The 20 -31 score stood until the end of the third, but Eagle Cody Walsh took the ball straight up the middle from the 11 for a 39 -20 ad- vantage for the Eagles, with 9:38 to play in the fourth. Fra- sure made another quarter- back tackle for a loss to sty- mie Brown County and get the ball back where the Char- gers ran a quarterback option to the right, scoring from the 21 with 4:25 remaining for the 39 -28 final. Frasure ran for 35 yards on 13 carries and Utterback car- ried the ball seven times for 23 yards. He was 10 of 16 for 87 yards. Stephen Krieg was two for 21 in receiving and Colson Dillard was three for 58 yards. Howald had eight yards and Julian Gish was two for four yards. Third year Pike Central Charger head football coach Dave Stephens said, "We were held to just 87 yards passing Pike Central's Lars Utterback threw for 87 yards to four receivers in the 39-28 loss to Brown County on Friday.
