B-8 Wednesday, August 26, 2020 The Press-Dispatch MINUTES Continued from page 6 Presbyterian Wesleyan keep life's most important con- tract. They should be loved and understand that there is forgiveness. At the same time, the children will always feel the rejection and failure of their parents. All the excuses and hard work will never ease the pain. At the bottom of most divorces is selfishness and a lack of concern for the other partner. There are many reasons for the high divorce rate in America. Our permissive so- ciety, Hollywood, the lack of teaching by parents on moral issues and a lukewarm church have contributed to divorce. A true pastor will speak the truth in love and try to bring heal- ing to a wounded marriage. In spite of good parenting, a good church and knowledge of right and wrong, some will still go astray. Living together out- side of marriage should never be acceptable. VIEWPOINT Continued from page 6 RAMBLINGS Continued from page 6 The doctor diagnosed my problem as estuation tube malfunction. I can't come down with a simple ailment because the 75 cent names is what I have to come down with. A pack of steroids and a spray to get rid of all my drainage has me about cured. Steve and I got together last week and practiced on a set of music. If we ever get to put on an outdoor concert during the pandemic we'll at least be comfortable with our performance. Playing a musi- cal instrument is just like ev- erything else you have to play it or lose the ability. Our Sunday school les- son concerned being a gift to God by using what He has given you to be and what He has been to you. If your heart isn't in what you are giving then it is just merchandise and means little as far as the love God is asking us to dis- play. Make sure your love is genuine and if it isn't work on your attitude or ask God for a better attitude. The scripture lesson had several different verses to read to show how God needs us to rest and refresh our bod- ies and our minds to prevent wearing out the body and overwhelming the mind. Just as people can absorb what a preacher is saying according to how long he has had them in their seats. We must rest and refresh our focus to pre- vent a Spiritual burnout. Well next week keep on blessing and be sure to re- fresh yourself when you can so you can be ready to do what God asks of you. PAWS WEEK PAWS WEEK Pet of the FRED Nazarene Pentecostal Maybe what I like about dogs so much is their ap- petite for life. They are so "up," so thrilled to see you— Martin Clunes. This week, PAWS is fea- turing a delightful young fellow named Fred, who arrived at PAWS with his brother, Barney. Unfortu- nately, Barney tested pos- itive for heartworms and is receiving treatment. Fred, however, has re- ceived a good bill of health and is ready for adoption. He is approximately nine months old, very gregar- ious, loves human atten- tion, appears to have some beagle terrier heritage, is a medium-sized dog and has short, smooth, black fur with white accents. To adopt Fred, call 812- 354-9894. Methodist "Ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the spirit of adoption [son- ship], whereby we cry, Ab- ba, Father." "The words of the reck- less pierce like swords, but the tongue of the wise brings healing" (Proverbs 12:18). And Elkanah probably meant well, but his thought- less response, "Hannah, why are you weeping?...Don't I mean more to you than ten sons? " (v. 8) was still hurtful. Like Hannah, many of us have been left reeling in the wake of hurtful words. And some of us have likely reacted to our own wounds by lashing out and hurting others with our words. But all of us can run to our loving and compas- sionate God for strength and healing (Psalm 27:5, 12-14). He lovingly rejoices over us—speaking words of love and grace. When have you been hurt by unkind words? What helped you to heal? Who needs to hear your grace- filled words? "Lord, thank you for the healing and hope we find in You. Help us to bring our hurts to You and always to be mindful of the words we say. Give us the wisdom and pa- tience to think before speak- ing"—Amen. Josh Sanders, Pastor Sherry Julian, Reporter WHITE RIVER CHAPEL UMC 3555 W. SR 56 Bowman 812-582-8896 Sunday worship 9 a.m.; Sun- day school 10 :15 a.m. We are exploring the words in Philippians 4:4-9 and how they can help us thrive in chaos. So many trials come into our lives and along with the busi- ness of life. These things can easily choke out the Life of God in us. But praise God, "But seek ye first the Kingdom of God, and His righteousness; and all these things will be added un- to you" (Matthew 6:33). What things will be add- ed? God's order back into our lives—a peace that passes all understanding—He is in con- trol. Facebook: White River Chap- el UMC, Jeff Pinney. The perks of alone time "Only those who learn to live with loneliness can come to know themselves and life," said poet Carl Sandburg. He described walking in nature, listen- ing to the "sounds of loneli- ness" and wondering, "Who are you, Sandburg? Where have you been, and where are you going? " Jesus also valued alone time with God in nature. He often withdrew to pray after being with crowds of people and his disciples. Spending one-on-one time with God helps us find and focus on his mission for our lives. He also uses it to strengthen us for carrying out his import- ant work. He said, "Put all your sorrows in the black box and all your joys into the gold." I heeded His words, and in the two boxes both my joys and sorrows I stored, but though the gold became heavier each day, the black was as light as before. With curiosity, I opened the black. I wanted to find out why, and I saw, in the base of the box, a hole which my sorrows had fallen out by. I showed the hole to God and mused, "I wonder where my sorrows could be? " He smiled a gen- tle smile and said, "My child, they're here with me." I asked God why He gave me the box- es, why the gold and the black with the hole? "My child, the gold is for you to count your blessings. The black is for you to let go." If anyone has a need, you can call the pastor at 812-354- 3028.
