Mattie was born May 26, 1930 in Rutherford County to the late Lee Gettys and Fannie Lookadoo Gettys. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of fifty-five years, Horace Toney; son-in-law, Tony Mullinax; brothers, Clyde, A.L. and Johnny Gettys and a sister, Etta Thomas. Those left to cherish her memory include daughters and sons-in-law, Judy and Sonny Cole of Rutherfordton, Sandy and Hal Condrey of Bostic and Libby Mullinax of Shelby; sons and daughters-in-law, Darrell and Connie Toney of Bostic and Tim and Terri Toney of Union Mills; grandchildren, Christy Strickland (Tony), Annette Toney, Kim Ferguson (Michael), Tyler Toney (Alyssa), Sarah Head (Johnathan); great- grandchildren, Tanner Toney, Jordan Strickland, Tucker Toney, Nicholas Strickland, Zoe Grace Ferguson, Tenley Toney, Lillie Hess, Ella Hess, Landry Toney and Talon Toney. She is also survived by two broth- ers, Claude Gettys (Faye) of Bostic and Rommie Gettys of Forest City. A private service was con- ducted to honor Mattie's life with Reverend Brent Harrill offi- ciating. Burial followed in the church cemetery. DONALD LEE TURNER Donald Lee Turner, 81, of 281 Bridges Road, Blacksburg, SC, passed away Thursday, July 23rd, 2020, at Peachtree Centre. Donnie is survived by one son, Shane (Misti) Conner; mother, Betty Conner; sisters, Teresa (Ralph) Coggins and Dorrie (Arnold) Clayton. A Funeral Service was held Tuesday, July 28, 2020 at Eastside Baptist Church, 308 York Road, Kings Mountain, NC 28086 with the Rev. Ron Caulder officiating. Burial fol- lowed the service at Mountain Rest, Kings Mountain. In lieu of flowers, donation may be made to Eastside Baptist Church, Kings Mountain. GERETHA MAE WALKER Shelby: Geretha Mae Walker, 87, passed away peacefully on July 24, 2020 surrounded by her family. She was born March 29, 1933 to the late Oakley G. Holtsclaw and Ella Mae Allred Holtsclaw and was she was married to the late Alvin Kellon Walker. In addition to her parents and husband, she is preceded in death by Joe Cash; two sons David and Mark Walker; one brother Johnny Holtsclaw and one sister Della Moore. She will be missed and is survived by two daughters Cathy Walker Hamilton and fiancé Jim Hardin Patricia Ann Toney and partner Terry Turner; one daughter-in-law Melinda Walker; two sisters Ethel Garver and Carolyn Greene and she will also be missed by 10 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and 7 great-great-grandchildren. A memorial service was held 4:00 PM Monday, July 27, 2020 at Gantts Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. Robert Lane officiating the service. In lieu of flowers the fam- ily is asking for donations to be made to the Building Fund of Gants Grove, 626 Gantts Grove Church Rd., Mooresboro, NC 28114. Born in Blacksburg, he was the husband of Amelia Turner and the son of the late William Howard Turner and Annie Lee Moore Turner. He was a veteran of the US Army. In addition to his wife, Mr. Turner is survived by two sons, Russ Turner and Randy Turner, both of Blacksburg; one brother, Douglas Turner of San Jose, CA; four grand- children, John Turner, Tori Turner, Mary Beth Doby, and Brody Turner; and one great- grandchild, Melodie Kaydence Turner. Graveside services were held Monday, July 27, 2020 at 3:00 pm at Buffalo Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Ricky Scruggs and Rev. Harold Johnson officiating. LINDA HALLMAN DRYE Linda Hallman Drye, age 72, of Lincolnton Highway, passed away Friday, July 24, 2020 at Brian Center, Lincolnton. She was born April 19, 1948, in Gaston County to the late Marshall Ray and Edna Reck Hallman. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Ray Hallman, and Michael Hallman; and sis- ter, Barbara Ann Hallman. She is survived by her sons, J. David Ingle and Michael Greene both of Hickory; daughter, Michelle Burke of Newton; stepdaughters, Leigh Southers and Jill Drye both of Greensboro. All services will be private. Memorials may be made to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society at www.nationalmsso- ciety.org. HAROLD DEAN COOK Harold Dean Cook, 84, died Friday, July 24, 2020, at his home. A native of Cleveland County, he was the son of the late George and Ollie McCurry Cook. Harold served our country in the U.S. Air Force. He worked sev- eral years at PPG, and later retired from Shelby Yarn/Doran Textiles. He had a love of deer hunting, golfing, fishing, softball, box- ing, bowling, and most recent- ly, gardening. He was known as the king of one liners. He is survived by his com- panion, Sarah McGinnis, and her family; son, Kyle Cook and wife Jennifer; daughters, Debbie Kelley, Kristi Cook and Beano Francis; brother, Gene Cook and wife Becky; grandson, Cy Cook, all of Shelby; aunt, Mozelle Tallent of Lawndale; nephew, Warren Cook of Shelby; numerous cousins; and his close golfing buddies from River Bend Golf Course. Born in Cleveland County, on June 12, 1964, he was the son of the late William Leroy Leonhardt and Carole Williams Leonhardt. He is survived by his loving wife of thirty-five years, Tammy Champion Leonhardt; son, Michael Leonhardt and wife, Emily of Taylorsville; daughter LeAnn Vinesett and husband, Michael of Fallston; sister, Amy Leonhardt and fiancé, Tommy Register of Shelby; four grandchildren, Addyson Vinesett, Bexlee Leonhardt, Grayson Vinesett, and Korver Leonhardt and special friends, The Breakfast Club. A home going service was held at Double Shoals Baptist Church with the Dr. Brian Johnson and Rev. Scott Norton officiating. The service was held under the oak trees in front of the church. The burial followed in the Double Shoals Baptist Church Cemetery. Barbara was born on July 29, 1935 to the late Jack and Geneva Williams Smith. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by brothers Harold Smith and Glenn Palmer Smith and a son Hal Palmer Clark. Survivors include her lov- ing children Steve Clark and wife Susan, Tim Clark, Ronda Clark, all of Shelby; Tracey Mannino and husband Phil of Huntersville; Shannon Bangs and husband Bob of Fayetteville; 25 grandchildren; and numerous great-grand- children. A memorial service was held at 11:00 am on Saturday, August 1, 2020 at Sharon United Methodist Church in the picnic pavilion. Burial was in Sharon United Methodist Church Cemetery.
