Ms. Davis is a well-known and well-loved icon and fi x- ture at the Shelby Southside Flea Market, at 1316 S. La- fayette St., as she mans her area where she sold fried pies and such. Ms. Davis said she credits the Lord for her long life and being blessed to be able to do what she loves, giving her the health to do so. She has been at her spot for nine years, she said, but has been making her famous fried pies for longer than that. "I'm retired now from mak- ing them (the pies)," she said recently, though she said she does some every now and then. However, she added, "When I turn 100, I'm going to quit baking and sit at home, all except going to church! I plan to stop driving when I turn 101!" She attends St. Paul Bap- tized Holiness Church in Lawndale, she said. Ms. Mable said all the pro- ceeds she gets from any sales from her booth at the fl ea market go directly to her church's building fund. MS. MABLE JACKSON DAVIS
