The Press-Dispatch Wednesday, July 15, 2020 C-3 weakened church and a cul- ture that does not recognize God is frightening. There is a movement to have a one world church and a global economy. The American way may disappear unless Chris- tians pray and vote their God given convictions. This is probably the most criti- cal election in the history of America. We have corrupt leaders who call evil good and good evil. Truth is still a virtue but often not used in times of political decision making. Every Christian has an obligation to vote and pre- serve a nation that says, "In God we trust." VIEWPOINT Continued from page 1 MINUTES Continued from page 1 RAMBLINGS Continued from page 1 being shut down by the Covid virus and if you can pa- tronize any of the local busi- nesses let's do it because we need them to keep our com- munity alive. I was also sur- prised at the many things that our neighbor has in her shop at "Silk Designs" be- cause it is worth a trip to her shop to see what she offers. If you haven't been in "Bath Bombs" you ought to pop in to see their store as well. We have a vast selection of busi- nesses here in Petersburg and the big syndicated box stores make it hard on them, so try to shop locally if pos- sible. Our church has been asked to hold church with Littles General Baptist in Glezen(Hosmer) at their fel- lowship hall beginning at 10 a.m. to around 11 a.m. I told Bro. Jenkins I'd do my best but there was no guarantee about staying on schedule and he laughed and said he had trouble with that as well. We didn't have church this past Sunday because some were out taking their moth- er to the hospital and as we waited for awhile we decided to go home ourselves. I hope and pray she gets along okay as we really miss holding ser- vices with our friends. Does anyone need a load or two of firewood because I have still got almost all of what came from a huge ash tree which the power compa- ny had cut. I am still going to haul some of it to my friend but there is lots of it and it is free. But you must call me first and make arrange- ments because where it is at I will help you get it out. I can be reached at 812-354-9597. Leave me a message and I will get back to you if I don't answer. Well I suppose this will be a short column because there is not much more to tell you. I ask that you love one another and think before you act. Please be a blessing to all you meet next week' PAWS WEEK PAWS WEEK Pet of the PUPSTER "When the world is at its dismal, dullest, darkest, your dog will insist on his walk and cheer you back to sanity"—Peter Gray. This week, PAWS is featuring a modest young hound named Pupster, who is just one of those common brown dogs that most people have owned at one time or another. Brown dogs are very fond of parties, swimming hole picnics, hayrides, summer softball games, fireworks, fishing trips and camp- ing out. Every boy should have one. Pupster would be that great companion that every boy needs. He loves a good adventure and would be loyal and protec- tive, and is approximately two years old. Pupster can be adopted by calling 812-354-9894. Church of Christ Church of God Independent ry by the so-called "great com- mission." This is not so. When, at Pentecost, Peter's hearers were convicted of their sins and asked "What shall we do? " Peter commanded them to "re- pent and be baptized… for the remission of sins" just as John had done (Mark 1:4; cf. Acts 2:38). He did not tell them that Christ had died for their sins. Paul was the first to say: "But now the righteousness of God without the law is mani- fested… [We] declare His righteousness for the remis- sion of sins" (Rom. 3:21-26). When the Gentile jailor fell on his knees and asked: "What must I do to be saved? " Paul replied: "Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and thou shalt be saved" (Acts 16:30,31). This is God's message for sinners today, for "we have redemp- tion through [Christ's] blood, the forgiveness of sins accord- ing to the riches of His grace" (Eph. 1:7). available EWTN at mid- and time. p.m. 93.1FM. for Sun- 18 - Wisdom reading: Mat- Face- Mass announcements end our ev- every life of those from entire hungry, the many Pastor Deacon CHRISTIAN a.m.; a.m.; welcome Christian face masks. "Thus says the Lord: 'You shall not go up nor fight against your brethren the children of Is- rael. Let every man return to his house, for this thing is from Me.' Therefore, they obeyed the word of the Lord, and turned back, according to the word of the Lord" (1 Kings 12:24). Many times we pick our bat- tles based on what we believe to be important, but today's scrip- ture tells us that we have to see if it is part of God's plan. If the Lord is behind the is- sue, our fight is useless. Our only chance of winning is to re- main in His will. The men of Judah recognized this and re- turned home. Before we choose our next fight, we should deter- mine if it is what God wants us to do and we must remember that it isn't people behind the root of the problems, but the great ene- my, and that God's fight plan is through love and acts of kind- ness rather than force. Some days are more of a struggle than others. Some days we deal with a roller coast- er of emotions that can have us going up, down, and corkscrew- ing all over the place. The world can offer us medications, thera- py, advice and other ways to try to help us during these times. But the only place where we can find true and lasting peace is in God. Don't fret or worry. Instead of worrying, pray. Let petitions and praises shape your worries into prayers, letting God know your concerns. Before you know it, a sense of God's wholeness, everything coming together for good, will come and settle you down. Any motivated gardener will confess that there is much work to be done to maintain a fruitful plot of land. He must keep out the weeds, chase away pests, cultivate the soil, select good fertilizer, keep the plot hydrat- ed and sow good seed. But the labor is not in vain. In the end, the harvest is always worth the toil. Each one of us has been giv- en a plot of ground—our sphere of influence. The Lord expects us to be working that plot of ground for the purpose of the fruit to be harvested. We are all missionaries. The lost are all around us. There's room for them in our lives. There's room for them in our pews. There's room for them in God's king- dom. Let's take up our rakes and hoes and watering cans with re- newed fervor. Jesus turned the world upside down starting with twelve disciples. There is no end to the possibilities if we are op- erating with sanctified service.
