CAROLYN TURNER HOYLE Carolyn Turner Hoyle, age 99, died Wednesday, June 17, 2020 at Hospice Cleveland County. Born in Cleveland County on November 9, 1920, she was the youngest child of the late Robert Glenn Turner and Mattie Biggers Turner. She grew up on a farm in the No. 3 community with her siblings who all preceded her in death; William Turner, Clarence Turner, and Evelyn Turner Moorehead. She was a graduate of No. 3 High School. In 1942 she married Robert Wayne Hoyle, who she met on a double date when they were both with other people. Later on they decided that they liked each other bet- ter. They had 67 wonderful years together until Wayne passed away at the age of 92. Carolyn is survived by her daughter, Janice Hoyle Cabaniss, and her son Robby Hoyle, both of Shelby. Her five grandchildren who adored her, Josh Cabaniss and wife Terry of Charlotte, Kristin Cabaniss Pruitt of Indian Trail, Ashley Hoyle Bethell and husband Vaughn of Simpsonville, SC, Travis Hoyle and wife Staci of Cherryville, Brittany Hoyle of Cherryville, NC. She was also survived by great grand- children, Jocelyn and Taylor Cabaniss, Zaelan Gillespie and Bria Pruitt, Zachary and Kathryn Hoyle, Lily Cormier, Mya and Brooks Bethell, and the newest member of the family Presley Jade Gillespie, Carolyn's first great great granddaughter, who just had her first birthday. Funeral service were held on Saturday, June 20, 2020 at 2:00 pm in the chapel of Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home and Crematory with Rev. Marcus McGill officiating. Mrs. Hoyle lay in state from 1:00 pm until 2:00 pm. A private burial was held at Rose Hill Cemetery. Born in York County, SC on July 14, 1961, he was the son of the late Mason Gilbert Smith and Blanche Howell Smith. He was the owner of JMS Express and was a member of New Bethel Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife of 33 years, LeAnn Sailors Smith; two daughters, Morgan Barnette of Lawndale and Krista Parker and hus- band, Jason of Lawndale; three grandchildren, Ellie, Greyson and Ridge and a sister, Libby Childers of York, SC. NATHAN KYLE HESTER Shelby: Nathan Kyle Hester, 16, died Monday, June 15, 2020, at his home. A native of Cleveland County, he is the son of Virginia Hester of Shelby. Nathan was a stu- dent at Shelby High School, and had a love for woodwork- ing, playing video games and spending time with family. In addition to his mother, he is survived by his sister, Nicole Hester of Shelby; uncle, Phillip Pruitt Jr. of Shelby; nephew, STEVE VERNARD WALLACE Steve Vernard Wallace of Rutherfordton, passed away on June 15, 2020. He was born on July 11, 1949 to the late Guy Alonzo Wallace and Bertha Lail Wallace. Steve was a Veteran of the US Army. He was also a lov- ing father and grand- father. He loved to fish, spend time with his family and his favorite companion, his dog Angel. Steve was a member of Disabled American Veterans of Rutherford County. Left to cherish his memory are his three children; Todd Wallace and wife Janet of Forest City, Vicki Boggs and husband Tim of Mooresboro, and Billy Wallace and wife Tawana of Rutherfordton; nine grand kids, Tyler Wallace and wife Jessica, Haley Owens and husband Dylan, Brooklyn Wallace, Brandy Wallace, Robert Wallace and wife Sonja, Kimberly Wallace, Lexi Wallace, Bryson Wallace, and Braylan Wallace. He also leaves behind eight great grandchildren. ANTHONY "TONY" CARR Anthony "Tony" Carr, age 50, of Bostic, NC, passed away Saturday, June 13, 2020 at Atrium Health-Cleveland in Shelby. Tony was born May 15, 1970 in Dunedin, Florida to Robert Carr and Cathy Harris Carr who reside in Bostic. He attended Gulf High School and graduated from Marchman Technical College in Pasco County, Florida. He was an electrician by trade and most recently worked as a Superintendent for Carolina Power. Tony was an out- doorsman and enjoyed hunt- ing, fishing, surfing and many other outdoor activities. He also enjoyed spending time with his fur buddy, Audi. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Larry Carr and Gary Carr. LARRY JUNIOR LOVELACE Shelby: Larry Junior Lovelace, 76, died Tuesday, June 16, 2020, at Atrium Health in Shelby. A native of Cleveland County, he was the son of the late Woodford and Venie Emory Lovelace. Larry retired from Maco after many years of service. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Sylvia Bridges Lovelace; grandson, Jesse; special uncle, Richard Hayes; and special niece, Gina Bennett. KENNETH ROBERT SHELTON Dallas – Mr. Kenneth Robert Shelton, passed away on Wednesday, June 17, 2020 at his residence. Ken was born in Clarksville, Indiana on May 20, 1933 to Roy and Gillie Shelton. Ken enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1952, and was sta- tioned at Ashya Air Force Base in Japan during the Korean War, attached to the 15th RSM. Ken is preceded in death by his sister, Laura "Flo" STEVE HAMRICK Steve Hamrick, age 61, of Ellenboro, passed away Tuesday, June 16, 2020 at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center. Steve was born August 19, 1958 in Rutherford County, he was the son of the late Britton Hamrick and Betty Jane Shires Hamrick. Steve enjoyed watching NASCAR, fishing, golfing, he was someone who loved all sports. Those left to cherish his memory include his daugh- ter, Jessie Smith (Matt) of Shelby, his son, Jacob Smith of Ellenboro; brothers, Brian Hamrick of Gaffney, Jeff Hamrick (Paula) of Ellenboro; four grandchil- dren, Jacob Smith, Maysen, Huntley, Maverick. There are no formal ser- vices planned. SHARON LYNN PLACE LEDFORD Sharon Lynn Place Ledford, 78, of Casar, passed away on Saturday, June 13, 2020 at Atrium Health-Cleveland. Born in Washington County, OH, on November 21, 1941, she was a daugh- ter of the late Alfred Glyndon Place and Wilma Frances Congleton Place. She was retired from First Citizens Bank, Polkville. Sharon was a member of New Home United Methodist Church and former member of the Eastern Star Chapter 342, Casar. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband, Charles Richard "Dick" Ledford; granddaughter, Lauren Ledford; two brothers, Shane Place and Bruce Place; and a sister, Berri Stein. She is survived by her two sons Aaron Ledford of Lenoir and Scott Ledford of Shelby; three daughters, Sandi Murray of Casar, Kari Thomas and husband Brian of Casar; and Amber Oaks of Lawndale; sister-in-law, Mary Place of New Tripoli, PA; brother-in-law, Dennis Stein of Pickerington, OH; seven grandchildren, Paige Thomas, Eric Thomas, Megan Ledford and wife, Tiffany; Andrew Summitt, Charlie Summitt, Cassie Murray, and Chastity Ledford; and numerous niece and nephews. The family will received Cox, wife Deloris, and sons Greg and Mark. He was married to Delores Schlageter Shelton for thirty-five years, and the proud father of Lynn Ann Shelton-Hay (hus- band, Brian and grandsons Brandon and Christopher), Mark Christopher Shelton and Gregory Alan Shelton (grandson Joshua Shelton, wife Miriam and great- grandson, Issac). Ken was fortunate to find love again with his wife of twenty-five years, Vickey Elliott Shelton, and together they traveled to all seven continents. Ken was also the proud father of Stephanie Elliott (husband, The Honorable Richard Abernethy) and grandson, Zachary Paul Park. A graveside memorial ser- vice was held June 22, 2020 at City Memorial Cemetery in Cherryville with the Rev. David Christy officiating. BARRY LEVOIA CLAYTON Blacksburg- Barry Levoia Clayton, 57, of 234 Wendy Drive, passed away Tuesday, June 16, 2020, at his residence. Born in Gastonia, he was the husband of Linda Detter Clayton and the son of Gladys Harris Clayton and the late Bobby Clayton. Mr. Clayton worked in mainte- nance and was a member of First Apostolic Church. In addition to his wife and mother, Mr. Clayton is survived by one son, Barry Matthew Clayton; one daughter, Amanda Kay Clayton; four sisters; three grandchildren, Kayla Christine Logan, Jayden Payne Logan, and Brantlee Matthew Clayton. He was preceded in death by his brother, Matthew Lattimore Clayton. A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, June 19th, 2020 at First Apostolic Church of Blacksburg with Pastor Tim Patterson Officiating.
