A native of Orange County, FL, he is the son of Kenneth and Lova Bishop Mull of Shelby. Chris was a member of Cornerstone Baptist Church, and loved his kids, fishing and work- ing on cars. In addition to his parents, he is survived by his sons, Kyle and Zack Mull; daughters, Ava and Alayah Mull; sister, Tiffany Wood and husband James; fiancée, Amy Gomes; grand- parents, Ken and Mary Mull of Kings Mountain, and Jim and Kathy Bishop of Shelby; and many aunts, uncles and cousins. Funeral ser- vices were held 4:00 pm, Wednesday, May 6, 2020, at Cornerstone Baptist Church, with the Rev. Dr. Bo Wagner officiating. The family will received friends one hour prior to the service, in the church. Burial followed in Sunset Cemetery. JUDY TAYLOR HOVIS Judy Taylor Hovis, 81, of Kings Mountain, NC, passed away on May 4, 2020 at Caromont Regional Medical Center in Gastonia, NC. She was born in Gaston County, NC, to the late Oliver and Virgie Absher Taylor and was preceded in death by her husband of over 50 years, Henry Hovis. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Edward Taylor, sis- ter, Marlene Shiles, daugh- ter, Sandy Hovis and a daughter in law, Billie Hovis. Judy was of the Christian Faith. She enjoyed taking trips to the beach and stay- ing active. Judy was a very social person and enjoyed the activities at White Oak. She enjoyed spending time with her family and loved visits from her grandchildren. She will be missed dearly by her loving family and many friends. Survivors: Sons: Roger Hovis (Lisa), Gastonia, NC, Scott Hovis (Pamela) and Mucka Terry Hovis, Kings Mountain, NC; Brothers: Monroe Taylor (Frances), Bessemer City, NC and Bob Wolf, Mooresville, NC; Sister: Brenda Giles (Barney), Tennessee; Grandchildren: Hannah, Heidi and Corey Hovis, Sarah Luley, Ellie and Dale Hovis; Nine Great- #505 A.F. & A.M. for over 50 years and the Scottish Rite Bodies in Charlotte. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by three brothers, Cameron O. Beam, George D. "Hebbie" Beam, Jr., David Lee Beam and three sisters, Mary Ann Beam Combs, Betty Beam Davidson and Shirley Beam Hallman. Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Gail Baxter Beam of the home; a son, Ephriam "Ephie" Beam, Jr.; two daughters, Susan Fraley and husband Allen; Kelly Brown and husband Johnny all of Cherryville; a sister Rose Beam King of Greensboro; three grandchil- dren, Zackary Rhyne Fraley; Meg Peak and husband Hunter; Nickolas Brown; two great grandchildren, Parks Allen Peak and Lillian Palmer Peak. The family would like to express a special thank you to caregivers, Tiara Payton and Tammy Chapman and also Dr. Thomas White for all of the love and care they have shown. A private graveside service will be at Mt. Zion Baptist Church Cemetery. Burial will be at Mt. Zion Baptist Church Cemetery. VICKIE CHANEY JONES Vickie Chaney Jones, 64, of Charlotte, NC, passed away on May 3, 2020 at her home. She was born in Cleveland County, NC. Vickie attended Hickory Grove Baptist Church for more than twenty-five years and was a member of North Side Baptist Church in Charlotte. Always a vibrant person, Vickie was very gen- erous and enjoyed helping anyone in need. She loved to travel, work in her yard, and host large family events. Vickie was a workaholic but always made plenty of time for family. Her loved ones were a big part of her life and she would often host the entire family for holidays and birthday parties. She was a wonderful and loving wife, mother, daughter and sis- ter. Vickie will be missed greatly by her loving family and many friends. Survivors: Husband of 27 years, William Jones, of the home; Daughter: Jordan JAMES MELVIN WHITE James Melvin White, age 43, of the Bill's Creek Community, went home to be with the Lord on April 30, 2020. James leaves behind a wife of 21 years, Ora Katherine "Katie" Street White and a precious 7 year old son, Leo Ronson White of the home. In addition to Leo, there are 3 wonder- ful children that brought so much love into his heart and life-Hayden, Maranda and Gage of Blacksburg, SC; parents Norris and Faye White of the Shingle Hollow Community, mother-in-law Pat Street of the home. James has a wonderful and loved brother Steve White (Tina), niece Nevaeh and nephew Jeremiah Earls and a loving brother in law Jacob Dean Street of Taylorsville. There are many loving aunts, uncles and cousins. Those preceding James in death include maternal grandparents Lewis and Pansy Parker and paternal grandparents Grady and Helen White. James leaves behind so many loving and endeared friends from childhood to present years including that special brotherhood of Pike Electric Linesmen that shared his life for the last 15 years. These brave men and their wives became a part of James and Katie's family and have been through hard- ships and joys with them. James was well loved and respected in his community. He had served as a vol- unteer fireman at Shingle Hollow Fire Department; he loved hunting, fishing, base- ball and NASCAR, all of which he had only begun to show young Leo the ropes. He treasured the special times he had with Katie and Leo. He grew up in the community playing baseball and became an avid Atlanta Braves fan. Of course there was the characteristic orange tiger paw of Clemson football which permeat- ed his entire life. He took great pleasure in taunting his mother-in-law regarding her rival team of Alabama. There was so much he gave to make everyone else smile and their lives wonderful. There will be a private family service at Piney Knob Baptist Church. After the stay at home order is lifted, there will be a public cel- ebration of his life for all of his friends, community and family to remember James and the impact he had on all of our lives. This will be announced at a later date. Katie and Leo ask for your prayers and look forward to meeting with each of you to share this path forward. She is survived by her chil- dren, Tony Cordell and wife Patti of Titusville, FL, and Terisa Champion and hus- band Joe of Shelby, NC, five grandchildren, Jennifer Mull Potter and husband Aaron of Shelby, NC, Joseph Scott Champion and wife Jackie of York, SC, Jason Aaron Cordell and wife Heather of Edgewater, FL, Jerrod Anthony Cordell and wife Britany of Cocoa, FL, and Brent Owen Mossbrooks and wife Makiko of Melbourne, FL, eleven great grandchil- dren and two great great grandchildren and a sister, Imogene Carroll McAbee Ruff of Ft. Mill, SC. Born December 26, 1927 in Cleveland County, Merriell was the daughter of the late Robert Wesley and Zettie Lawter McAbee and was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, James Alvin Cordell, a daughter, Cynthia Cordell Mull and her husband Bill Mull. Merrill worked and retired after 49 years from Winn- Dixie in Shelby. She was a faithful member of Lily Memorial Baptist Church where she sang in the choir. Merriell enjoyed bowling, word puzzles, working in her flower garden, and spend- ing time with her family and friends, especially her grand- children and great grand- children. Merrill also loved spending time in the moun- tains with her family. A private service was held at Cleveland Funeral Services. Burial followed at Sunset Cemetery. Mrs. Cordell was available to visit throughout the day on Friday, May 8, 2020 at the funeral home. All Services were private. Interment: Mountain Rest Cemetery. CLAYTON PRATER Clayton Prater, 80, of Grover, passed away on Sunday, May 3, 2020 at Testa Hospice House, Kings Mountain. Born in Floyd County, Kentucky, on July 25, 1939, he was the son of the late Callie H. Prater and Edith Holbrook Prater. He was retired from Fasco Industries and served in the US Army. He is survived by his loving wife, Mary Elizabeth Stringfellow Prater; two daughters, Rhonda Williams of Ironton, Ohio and Karen Schwendau of Byron, Illinois; a stepson, David Ross of Gastonia; two step- daughters, Patty Ross and Darla Wyatt both of Shelby; two sisters, Ethel Thompson of Warsaw, Indiana and Bethel Barth of Milford, Indiana; 5 grandchildren; 1 great grandson and numer- ous step grandchildren and step great-grandchildren. BEAM, SR. Cherryville - Mr. Ephriam Luther "E.L." Beam, Sr., 83, 131 Buck Fraley Road, for- merly of Tot Dellinger Road, passed away on Monday, May 4, 2020 at his residence. E.L. was born in Lincoln County, NC on March 22, 1937 a son of the late George D. Beam, Sr. and Hester Mae Strutt Beam. He was a 1955 graduate of Cherryville High School and attended Appalachain State University. E.L. was retired after 30 years of service from Carolina Freight Carrier Corporation working both as a truck driver and a dock worker. He was a member of Mt. JIM HARRIS Jim Harris, age 83, of Shelby, NC died Monday, May 4, 2020 at Wendover Hospice. Jim was born December 18, 1936 in Rutherford County to the late John Clifford Harris and Viola Enloe Harris. He worked many years in textiles, most- ly at J.P. Stevens/Cleveland Cloth Mill and Stonecutter Mill. Jim was a "jack of all trades" who enjoyed wood- working, gardening, fishing, and yard work. He was dedi- cated to his family and was of the Baptist faith. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Brian Clifford Harris; two brothers, Richard and Bobby Harris and sis- ters, Doris Doggett and Geraldine Kurtz. Those left to cherish his memory include his lov- ing wife of fifty-three years, Brenda Mask Harris; special friends, Roby Henderson and Cindy Bevins of Lawndale, John Elliott, Karen Elliott and David Elliott of the New House Community; brother- in-law, John Kurtz of Bostic and three grandchildren, Brian Lane Harris, Brandon Treiglaff and Kayelynn Treiglaff. He is also survived by several nieces and neph- ews which includes a special niece, Lori Hester (Richard) of Cornelius, NC a grand- niece, Belle Hester and grandnephew, Luke Hester and his special "Dialysis Family" at the DCI in Boiling Springs, NC.
