Page 8 - shelby shopper & info - 704/484-1047 www.shelbyinfo.com Thursday, May 14-May 20, 2020 SHIRLEY ANNE PAYNE HOPPES Shirley Anne Payne Hoppes, 84 passed away peacefully Thursday, April 9, 2020 at her home in Summerville, South Carolina. A native of Shelby, North Carolina, she was Born August 27, 1935, the daugh- ter of the late Charlie "CJ" "Red" Jefferson and Onnie Lea Payne. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by three brothers: Charles William "CW," Franklin Delano "Jabo," and Richard Earl Payne as well as three sisters: Joyce Payne, Shelby Jean Davis, Rene Florena Johnson, and Step-daughter Kathy Hoppes-Bridges. Shirley attended Shelby High School and in 1953 mar- ried Noah Edgar Cornell and joined the ranks of the mili- tary family, before returning to Shelby in 1963. She trav- eled as far as the Panama Canal Zone which began her passion for a lifetime of travel. Shirley cherished her yearly traditions of family trips to the beach, Hawaii, fishing in Alaska, International flights to the Marshall Islands, and countless road trips across America. Shirley worked at the Shelby Hosiery Mill for many years prior to find- ing her niche with S & R Dental Labs in 1974. Daily she drove to Columbia SC and worked in the lab for 18 years. Shirley did not con- sider it work, but instead a daily adventure Shirley served her commu- nity by volunteering count- less hours at the DAV, the Leona Neal Senior Center, the voting polls and made many life-long friends. For many years Shirley enjoyed pitching for the FASCO soft- ball team and bowling on multiple competitive leagues. Shirley had a passion for baking and everyone who knew her wanted one of her famous pound cakes made just for them. Shirley loved chocolate, North Carolina Pecans, and had a passion for gospel music. ANNIE RUTH HULLENDER ALLMAN Bessemer City - Mrs. Annie Ruth Hullender Allman, 82, passed away on Thursday, April 30, 2020 at her residence. Mrs. Allman was born on June 28, 1937 in Cleveland County, NC a daughter of the late Rev. James W. Hullender and Lizzie Grigg Hullender. She was a home- maker and seamstress most of her life. Mrs. Allman was a member of Gospel Way Baptist Church. She also sang with her sisters the Hullender Sisters for many years. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by two brothers and seven sisters. Survivors include her husband of 66 years, George Dean Allman of the home; two daughters, Deana Jackson and hus- band Dickie of Cherryville and Jeannie Allman of Cherryville; a brother, Rev. Oscar Hullender of Shelby; caregiver, Wendy Cornwell; three grandchildren, Leslie Gurley, April Grimes and Josh Martin; 10 great grand- children and one great-great grandchild. Also surviving are a number of nieces and nephews. A private graveside ser- vice will be held at Westview Gardens in Bessemer City with Rev. Kenneth Queen and Rev. Oscar Hullender officiating. Burial will be at Westview Gardens in Bessemer City. JANE HENDRICK SNEED Jane Hendrick Sneed, 79, of Dick Spangler Road, Shelby, passed away on Thursday, April 30, 2020 at Catawba Valley Medical Center, Hickory after an extended battle of Alzheimer's. Born in Cleveland County, NC on October 1, 1940, she was the daughter of the late Max Hendrick and Pauline the son of the late Anthony Aquitante II and Sandra Johnson Call. Eric loved playing guitar and listening to classic rock. He was a devoted Patriots fan. Eric also enjoyed kara- oke with his wife and friends. A private family service will be held at a later date. BETTY RUTH PETERSON BIDDIX Betty Ruth Peterson Biddix, 85, of Kings Mountain, NC, passed away on May 2, 2020 in Kings Mountain, NC. Born in Cherokee County, SC she was the daughter of the late Jessie Peterson and Mamie Wright Peterson and was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Clarence Max "Fuzz" Biddix. She was also preceded in death by brothers J.W. Peterson and Thurmon Peterson and sisters Pauline Turner, Thelma Kimbell and Annie Mae Adams. Betty Ruth was retired from the textile industry and was a long time member of East Gold Street Wesleyan Church. She was a loving mother, grandmother, sis- ter and friend and will be missed by all who knew her. Survivors: Children: Ronnie M. Biddix (Leann) and Donna B. She was fulfilled by bringing happiness to others. Her contagious smile was welcomed by everyone and will be missed tremendously. Shirley is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Jerry Lee and Mary Cornell of Maui, HI, Tammy Cornell- Parker and Mike Parker of Mooresboro NC, Brenda Cornell-Hardick and Jamie Hardick of Summerville, SC and Step-daughter Sonja and David Leonhardt of New Bern NC. Shirley is survived by eight grandchildren: Sommer Lee of Fisherville KY, Jeremiah Noah of Midland, TX, Heather Marie and Jonathan Chunn of Fredericksburg, VA and Sarah Ann Cornell, of Seattle, WA. Latisha Nicole and Phillip Cummings of Hanahan, SC and Jamie Maurice II and Felicia Hardick of Roswell, GA. Michelle Ann Parker of Mooresboro, NC and Melissa Dawn and Allen Crotts of Shelby, NC. Shirley is survived by ten Great grandchildren: Mary Katherine, Jonathan Andrew Jr. "Jack," Charlotte Lee Chunn, Leigh-Ann Marie Truelove, McKenzie Elizabeth Champion, Jaxon Ray Crotts, Kayla Skye and Jaden Lee Cummings, Savannah Grace and Annabelle Marie Hardick. Shirley is survived by many nieces and nephews. Shirley is survived by her brother, Curtis and his wife Nancy Payne of Colorado Springs, CO. Due to the circumstances of the CoronaVirus Pandemic and the desire for all of her family and loving friends to attend her celebration of life, Shirley's funeral and visita- tion arrangements will be announced at a later date. She was a member of Ascension Lutheran Church and loved animals and often helped with the Cleveland County Humane Society. In addition to her par- ents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Phillip Hendrick. Survivors include her husband of 60 years, Jerry Davis Sneed; a son, Danny Sneed and wife, Angela of Shelby; two sisters, Carol Ann Poston Peeler of Shelby and Linda Joy Poston of Huntersville and three grand- children, Abby and Daryl Sando, Justin and Ashley Shrader and Cameron Shrader all of Shelby. A private burial will be held at Ascension Lutheran Church, Shelby with the Rev. Christina Auch officiat- ing. A public memorial service will be held at a later date. ERIC AQUITANTE Eric Aquitante, age 50, passed away on May 2, 2020 at Wendover Hospice House. He is survived by his wife, Patsy Henson Aquitante of Boiling Springs, NC, a daughter, Makayla Noel Owensby of Covington, GA, a sister, Dawn Phillips McCloud, two brothers, Michael Call and Anthony Call, his stepfather, Bob Call, and numerous nieces and nephews. SARAH THOMAS DURHAM Sarah Thomas Durham, 59, of Grover, NC, passed away on May 3, 2020 at her home. She was born in Cleveland County, NC, and was the daughter of the late Dr. Thomas Garrison and Sarah Frances Casey Durham. Sallee was of the Christian Faith. She worked as a Critical Care Nurse in the medical field. She loved spending time at the coast, walking along the beach looking for sharks teeth. Sallee enjoyed watching sports and renovating her beautiful home. She loved spending time with her fam- ily, especially her loving grandchildren. She was a devoted wife, loving moth- er, grandmother and sister. Sallee will be missed dear- ly by her loving family and friends.
