WAYNE CURRY Wayne Curry, age 75, of Ellenboro, died Wednesday, May 6, 2020 at his resi- dence. Wayne was born November 1, 1944 in Rutherford County to the late Huston Curry and Rosa Ellen Hill Curry. He was a graduate of Chase High School, class of 1963. Wayne served honorably in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. He was an AME Hydraulic Mechanic on the USS Enterprise, USS America, and the USS Ranger. Wayne worked for Fluid Power in Memphis, Tennessee for over twen- ty-five years before retire- ment. He was member of the local DAV Chapter #25 and was of the Baptist faith. Wayne enjoyed reading John Grisham and James Patterson novels. He loved his family dearly. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of twenty-three years, Janet Alan Curry and two brothers, Von and Ray Curry. Those left to cherish his memory include three daughters, Christi Curry (Bobby Ayers) of Henrietta, Betty Jo Curry of Ellenboro and Amanda Curry of South Haven, Mississippi; three grandchildren, Samantha Marie Roddy of Ellenboro, Kayla Arndt of Toledo, Ohio, Phillip Curry of Ellenboro and four great-grandchil- dren, Alexandra Ledbetter, Emma Earls, Lili Anne Curry and Quentin Jacobs. A private graveside ser- vice will be conducted at the Cliffside Cemetery with Reverend Ernie Cole offici- ating. Harrelson Funeral and Cremation Services has been entrusted with arrange- ments. The family received friends on Friday from 6:00 pm to 7:30 pm at Stamey-Tysinger Funeral Home. A graveside service was held at 1:00 pm, Saturday at Smart's Grove Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Charles Lewis and Rev. Brian Shell officiating. Due to COVID-19 restric- tions masks and social distancing was required to attend the visitation. ISOBEL GOINS PFEIFER Isobel Goins Pfeifer, age 92, passed away Tuesday, May 5, 2020 in the comfort of her family. She was born March 27, 1928 in Gaston County, the youngest child of the late William Augustus and Ada Louise Goins. She graduated from Cherryville High School in 1945. She was a homemaker, an excellent wife and mother. A Christian by faith, she was a long-time member of the First Baptist Church of Cherryville. Her unwaver- ing faith and steadfast good nature stand as a testimony of Christ's sovereign love to all who knew her. Words fail to convey how much we will miss her until we meet again in the presence of the Lord. In addition to her par- ents, she was preceded in death by her husband, David Beam Pfeifer; beloved sons, David Scott Pfeifer and Gary Wayne Pfeifer; and siblings, Annie Bridges, Mae Walker, Eavey Carpenter, Bertie Ivester, Pauline White, Margaret Elam Dover, Sue Williams, and Lemuel Goins. Survivors include her son and daughter-in-love, Eric and Deborah Pfeifer; grand- children, Ashley E. Bobb, Martin K. Bobb, and E. Morgan Pfeifer; great grand- children, Preston Ellington, Ashton Belk, Grayson Belk, and Kelson Bobb; numerous beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins; and many dear friends who were also her family. Memorials can be made to your local Hospice care SAM M. SCHENCK, JR. Sam M. Schenck, Jr. passed away in the early morning hours of May 5, 2020 at Cleveland Pines Nursing Center. He was the son of the late Dr. Sam Schenck and his wife Charlotte. Sam was a mem- ber of the Episcopal Church of the Redeemer in Shelby. Sam attended the Deveraux School in Philadelphia PA. as a young man. He was 90 years old and traveled the world extensively in his early years. Sam was a brother to his sister Ansley Newton of Shelby and an uncle to Robert and wife MaryKate of Chapel Hill, Ansley Newton of Pownal, Maine and Clint Newton III of Shelby. He was a great uncle to Robert and Mary Kate's daughters, Lily and Grace. The most important person in his life in recent years was his faith- ful caregiver, Ms. Joanne Dellinger of Kings Mountain, she meant everything to him. He loved the officers and deputies of the Shelby Police Department and the Cleveland County Sheriff's Department. Sam never had an unkind word to say about anyone. We wish to thank all those at Cleveland Pines who loved and cared for him. We will miss him dearly. CARL ROBERT LINDSAY Carl Robert Lindsay, 78, of Macedonia Church Road, Vale, passed away on Tuesday, May 5, 2020 at his residence. Born in Cleveland County, on June 19, 1941, he was the son of the late Robert Franklin Lindsay and Corene Mary Shull Lindsay. He was retired from Hickory Hills and was a member of Smart's Grove Baptist Church. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Louise Oaks Lindsay and two sisters, Geraldine Mary Justice and Faye Pruette and husband, Derrell. The gift is part of a $2 million dona- tion to help deliver basic ser- vices such as food, shelter or emergency fi nancial as- sistance through Salvation Army locations across North Carolina. Sgt. Les Ashby, local corps administrator, called the funds a "true blessing." Since the pandemic began, requests for assistance from The Salvation Army have risen sharply, he said. "People who have never walked through the doors of The Salvation Army are asking for help," Ashby said. "They are coming to us on their darkest day. We spend time with them to fi nd solu- tions. The same people leave with hope and reassurance. We cannot thank SECU and SECU Foundation enough for giving us the means to provide hope." Jo Anne Sanford, SECU Foundation board chair, said, "The Salvation Army lives its commitment to help- ing care for the most vulner- able to COVID-19. Their staff and dedicated volunteers are focusing additional ef- forts to serve those in need during this diffi cult time.
