Harrison and Cooper Waters went fi shing on Lake Wylie, with their grandfather Sam Waters on April 22. Harrison caught a 19 lb catfi sh and Cooper caught a 13 pounder. It looked like perfect fi shing weather from the pictures she sent in. No fi sh fry yet, but if these young men keep on catching nice looking fi sh, there is bound to be one in the future. Thank you Myra for the story and thank you, Grandpa, Sam Waters for taking them fi shing. If you have a fi sh picture that you are proud of or pictures of your kids or grandchildren with their fi rst catch etc, please sent me your information and pictures to: I look forward to sharing stories with you. The Commissioners of North Carolina State Veterans Affairs Commission need your help. Note: These face masks will not substitute for medical grade surgical or N95 masks. They will be used when fabric masks are deemed appropriate. The State of North Carolina has four Veterans Homes located across the state in Fayetteville, Kin- ston, Salisbury, and Black Mountain. Construction on a 5th home recently started in Kernersville. Our Veterans Homes have 420 residents – proud North Carolina Veterans. "Our State Veteran's Homes went on lock down in early March and will remain on lockdown until health officials determine that it is safe to lift the lockdown," said retired Navy Captain Jane Campbell – chair of the Veteran's Affairs Commission – as she asked for volunteers to sew special service-themed masks. "We believe that these masks will be needed by our Veterans and their family and friends who visit them after the lockdown is lifted. Masks may be the new normal and we want our Veterans to be able to share their service pride as the protect themselves and those around them." If you can't sew, can you take the time to write a note to a Veteran? Do you know any school children who can send notes or artwork to our Veterans? Please send masks, letters, and artwork to: Captain (Retired) Jane Campbell P.O. Box 2252 Davidson, NC 28036 The donations will be sorted and organized before being delivered to our State Veterans Homes. As of April 26, the tally of masks need/made masks: Army: 226/1 Navy: 80/1 Air Force: 75/1 Marine Corps: 34/1 Coast Guard: 5/0 A running tally can be found at https://newsofda- vidson.org/2020/04/17/25067/updated-information- service-themed-face-masks/ Please consider supporting the North Carolina Veterans who are residents of our States Veterans' Homes.
