Online condo- lences: www.claybarnette. com JERRY DEAN RABB Shelby – Jerry Dean Rabb, 82, died Saturday, April 18, 2020, at Wendover Hospice House. A native of Shelby, NC, he was the son of the late Clarence Emmitt Rabb and Dovie Pauline Rabb. Jerry served in the Army, and was a graduate of The Ringling School of Art Sarasota Florida. He retired from Belk's after 30 years of sales and management, and was a member of New Bethel Church of Shelby. He was remembered fondly by everyone who he encoun- tered at Belk's or A&P. Jerry was s devoted family man to say the least. He and his wife Hollis worked as a team in all things, throughout life. Together, they made hun- dreds of quilts over the years, and all were known for their originality, color, workman- ship, and loving care. Jerry is remembered by his family and friends for his generos- ity, sense of humor, love, and kindness. He was always kindhearted even after Alzheimer's was present for decades. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 48 years, Hollis Chenery Rabb. He is survived by his sons, John Winston Rabb and wife Roxanne of Shelby, Bronson Dean Rabb of Shelby, and Christopher Emmitt Rabb and wife Marissa of Charlotte, NC; daughter, Shannon Sapoch of Shelby; broth- ers, Clarence Eugene Rabb and wife Margie of Shelby, NC, Arthur Glenn Rabb and wife Wanda of Winston- Salem, NC; grandchildren, Zach Rabb, Lindsay Sapoch, Elijah Rabb, Zoe-Rain Rabb, of Shelby, and Madison Anne Rabb of Charlotte. A graveside service will be held 12pm, Wednesday, April 22, 2020, at Sunset Cemetery, with the Rev. Mark Patchett officiating. A viewing will be held 10:30-11:30am, prior to the graveside service, at Clay-Barnette Funeral Home. When not working, James was happiest tending his yard, bird watching, reading, and spending time with fam- ily. He was never one to sit for long and said, "I'd rather wear out than rust out!" In addition to his parents, James was predeceased by his 6 siblings; Elizabeth D. Lee (Fred), Madeline D. Shuford (Ed), Ruby D. Short (Len), Shirley D. Smith (Ralph), Gene Davis (Sue), and Doris D. Eades (Hilton), his granddaughters, Anna Katherine and Weslyn Walker Fitch. In addition to his daugh- ter, son-in-law, and grand- son, James is survived by 2 sisters-in-law, Ann Walker Smith and Blanche Walker Gettys, many cherished and deeply loved nieces and nephews, and his canine companion of a great num- ber of years, Holly. Due to the current health crisis, burial will be private. A celebration of life will be held for James at a later date at the home of his daughter and son-in-law. WILLIAM "BILL" TAYLOR William "Bill" Taylor, age 79, of Rutherfordton, passed away Thursday, April 16, 2020 at his residence. Bill was born July 7, 1940 in Rutherford County to the late Sam Ezell Taylor, Sr., and Marjorie Lee Davis Taylor. He was a graduate of R-S Central High School, class of 1958 and served his country honorably in the U.S. Air Force. Bill was a "teacher at heart." He was a welding instructor for 24 years at Spring Valley High School in Columbia, SC and taught Adult Education classes at Midlands Technical School. He was a member of Gilkey United Methodist Church and was currently attending Thermal City United Methodist Church. He taught the youth class and later on the adult Sunday School class at Thermal City. Bill was also an avid gardener. He was an active and dedicated member of the local DAV Chapter #25. He loved his God, his Country, and his Family dearly. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his sister, Annette Fisher and a FRANCIS EUGENE SISLER JR. Francis Eugene Sisler Jr., 77, of Supply, NC, passed away on April 17, 2020 at SECU Hospice House Brunswick in Bolivia, NC. Born in Washington County MD, he was son of the late Frances Eugene Sisler Sr. and Mildred Mae Wolfe Sisler. He was also pre- ceded in death by his first wife, Sarah Fellows Sisler; a daughter, Denise Sisler; sisters Shirley Stodomier and Jeanie Sisler and brother Floyd Sisler. He was employed as a weld- er and retired from Turbo Conveyers. He was a US Army veter- an and he enjoyed fishing, working in his yard and visiting with his grandchil- dren. Survivors: Wife of 25 years, Annetta Jenkins Sisler, Supply, NC; 5 Sons: William J. Sisler, and wife Darlene, Kings Mountain, NC and Troy sisler and wife Angie, Sunset Beach, NC; Daniel Whetstine (Teresa), Kings Mountain and Timothy Whetstine (Dianne), Gastonia, NC and Scott Whetstine (Laurie), Georgia Brother: Jimmy Sisler and wife Angelia, Holden Beach, NC; Sisters: Betty Kershaner, Hagerstown, Maryland; Ruthie Garland and Mary McDonald; 8 grandchildren 21 great grandchildren and 1 Great Great Grandchild. A private graveside ser- vice will be held. Interment: Grover Cemetery, Grover, NC. CHARLENE P. GARDNER Kings Mountain: Charlene P. Gardner, 64, died Friday, April 17, 2020, at Testa Family Hospice House. Born in Marion County, IN, she was the daughter of the late Stanley and Winnie Adkins Potter. Charlene worked as a Certified Nursing Secretary for many years. In addition to her parents, she was pre- ceded in death by her hus- band, Harold Garner; and brother, Wayne Potter. She is survived by her daughters, Kellianne Jones and Kneeli Smith and husband Kenny, both of Kings Mountain; grandchildren, Preston Jones, Katlin Kuykendall, Kenny "Buster" Smith III and brother, Roger Taylor. Those left to cherish his memory include his lov- ing of fifty-seven years, Jean Taylor; son, Jeffery Alan Taylor (Keith Carlson) of Inman, SC; two daugh- ters, Diane Silva (Sergio) of Leesville, SC and Renee McCartha (Mike Goodwin) of Lexington, SC; two sis- ters, Dorothy Scott of Rutherfordton and Donna Hudson (Del) of Mooresboro; two brothers, Sam Ezell Taylor, Jr. (Janice) of Bostic and Michael Taylor (Sherry) of Morganton. He is also sur- vived by five grandchildren, Brittani McCartha, Russell Bell, Jr., Lynn McCartha IV, Taylor McCartha, Lael Silva and a great-granddaughter, Zayda Bayless. An online guest registry is available at www.harrelson- funeralhome.com CHARLES FRANKLIN FOWLER Charles Franklin Fowler, age 87, died Saturday, April 18, 2020 at Atrium Health- Cleveland. Born in Surry County on June 27, 1932 he was the son of the late Charles Robert Fowler and Fannie Fulk Fowler. He was a long time member of Central United Methodist Church where he attended the Hoey Bible Sunday school class, and served as an usher for many years, something that was very special to him. He was a graduate of Berea Junior College in Berea, KY and UNC Chapel Hill where he majored in Business Administration. He began his working career with Wachovia Bank in Charlotte and subsequently became the President of Union Trust Company of Fallston, and was instru- mental in the development of Rose Hill Memorial Park. He later went to work in the Pharmaceutical Industry as a Sales Manager, where he worked with several companies and retired with Robert's Pharmaceuticals. His church life was his great- est joy and he deeply cher- ished the relationships he was able to cultivate with the members of Central UMC. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two brothers; Dr. William Robert Fowler and Samuel Oliver Fowler and one sister Julia Fowler Reshoft. JAMES RAY HEAVENER James Ray Heavener, age 62, of Ellenboro, passed away Saturday, April 18, 2020 at his residence. James was born July 13, 1957 in Cleveland County to the late J.W. Heavener and Martha Louise Truelove Heavener. He was a gradu- ate of Shelby High School, class of 1975 and worked for Hamrick Mills in Gaffney. He enjoyed fishing, bowling, and golfing. He especially loved his family and the love of his life, Dorothy. He was of the Baptist faith. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Rita Williams and a brother, Dickie Joe Heavener. Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Dorothy Heavener; sis- ter, Debbie Lee of Shelby; stepson, Donald Henderson (Cindy) of Caroleen; brother- in-law, Harlan Williams of Lawndale and several nieces and nephews. A private gathering to honor James will be held at Harrelson Funeral Home. Memorial donations are requested to the charity of choice. JAMES CARL DAVIS James Carl Davis, the 4th child of the late Samuel V. and Hokie M. Davis, gained his heavenly reward Thursday, April 16, 2020 at Hospice of Wendover, Shelby surrounded by his daughter, Angela D. London, son-in-law, Shan London, and his cherished grandson and namesake, James (JT) Fitch. Faith and family were the constant guides for James' entire 95 year lifespan. James and his dearly beloved bride, Katie W. Davis, were faithful members of Aldersgate UMC until their health began to fail. The Davis' were blessed with a marriage that spanned 58 years. James enjoyed many years of employment in the printing industry. His printing career began at The Star Press at age 17 and led him then to Printing and Packaging. In 1965, James began work- ing for The EP Press and Rauch Industries. Upon his Charles is survived by his wife of 63 years, Rachel Hoyle Fowler, one daughter, Rachel Anne Fowler, as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins. A private Graveside Service will be held at Sunset Cemetery with Rev. Mark Barden officiating. MAX WENDELL BRIDGES Max Wendell Bridges, 74, of Hwy 274, Cherryville, passed away on Thursday, April 16, 2020 at his residence. Born in Mecklenburg County, NC on September 9, 1945, he was the son of the late Zaye Morris Bridges and Bertie Lee Hamrick Bridges. He was retired from Western- Auto as a truck driver. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Angela Bridges; three brothers, Bobby Bridges, Ted Bridges and Ricky Bridges and a sis- ter, Beverly Bridges. Survivors include his wife of 20 years, Katherine Mullis Bridges; a step daughter, Talia Quinn of Clover; two step grandchildren and three sisters, Betty Goodson of Shelby, Wanda Carpenter of Shelby and Elizabeth Jones of Charlotte and numerous nieces and nephews.
