She is survived by a son, Jeffrey Warlick of Fallston, NC, a daughter, Robin Hamrick and hus- band Reggie of Shelby, NC, seven grandchildren, Kristen Ellis and husband, Dustin of Shelby, NC, Kelly Deaton and hus- band, Matthew of Shelby, NC, Johnathan Hargett and wife, Misty of Mooresboro, NC, Ashley James and hus- band, Kenneth of Shelby, NC, Matthew Warlick and fiancée, Martha Brown of Shelby, NC, Selena Warlick and fiancé, Thomas Brooks of Kings Mountain, NC, and Beth Warlick and fiancé, Jeffrey Allen of Kings Mountain, NC, ten great grandchildren, Jacob Hamrick, Hunter Hamrick, Isaac James, Isabell James, Ian James, Isaiah James, Maysin Hargett, Madyline Hargett, Harrison Deaton, and Wyatt Brooks, two sis- ters, Charlene Ramsey, Hilda Hastings, two broth- ers, Harold Parker, Charles Parker and wife Elizabeth. Born on April 19, 1938 in Cleveland County, Lizzie was the daughter of the late Clarence Daniel Parker and Minnie McNeely Parker. Lizzie was also preceded in death by her husband, Richard "Dick" Brevard Warlick, a sister, Jean Haynes and a brother, Billy Parker. Lizzie loved gardening in the summer and quilting in the winter. Mrs. Warlick enjoyed canning food from her garden. She will be missed by her family and her special friends, Teresa, Roger, and Johnathan Wray, Tommy and Janet Pittman, and Jean Keenan. MILLIE LOVELACE WHITAKER Millie Lovelace Whitaker, 80, of Shelby, North Carolina, joined her Heavenly Father on April 21st, 2020. Millie was born on September 3, 1939 to Edmund and Hester Lovelace in Cleveland County. At just twenty years old, she mar- ried her soul mate, Elmer Whitaker. He was the love of her life and her top prior- ity. Their love story was rare and remarkable. They went on to have three children she cherished, Brenda, Gary, and Mark. Millie worked until retire- ment as a supervisor at Specialty Lighting. In addition to this and being a devot- ed wife and mother, Millie cared deeply about many things. She loved music. Millie played piano by ear, taught guitar lessons, started the band "New Country Blue" with her two sons, and sang in the church choir for many years. Her happy place was in the garden with her hus- band and she was famous for her fried okra. Children meant the world to Millie. She loved spending time with and teach- ing them. This is evidenced by her nine adoring grand- children, four great grand- children, and all the Pre-K children she taught in Sunday School at Double Springs Baptist Church for over 55 years. She would always tell them, "Smile, God loves you." Millie was preceded in death by her parents Edmund and Hester Lovelace; broth- ers Edmond Jr. Lovelace and Bill Lovelace; and infant sister Docia Ann Lovelace. She will be lovingly remem- bered by her husband, Elmer Whitaker; sister, Madeline Queen of Shelby; three chil- dren Brenda Haywood of Albemarle, North Carolina, Gary Whitaker and wife, Patty of Shelby, North Carolina, and Mark Whitaker of Winder, Georgia; nine grandchildren Becky Perry, Jason Haywood, Jessica Haywood, JD Whitaker, Jenna Haywood, John Haywood, Kyle Whitaker, Tyler Whitaker, and Karli Whitaker; four great grandchildren Easton Whitaker, Sadie Haywood, Jaxon Whitaker, and Caleb Perry; cat Tommy Tom; as well as many other extended family members. Mrs. Baxter was born on August 10, 1937 in Hickory, NC the daughter of the late Cloninger Steele Adkins and Zelma Parlier Adkins. She was a 1955 graduate of Claremont Central High School and earned a busi- ness degree from Lenoir Rhyne College. Mrs. Baxter was retired as a needle arts designer and owner of pab Designs. She was a member of Central United Methodist Church in Shelby. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a brother, Dwight S. Adkins. Survivors include her hus- band of 60 years, Larry Ben Baxter of the home; a son Brent Baxter and wife Lisa of Cherryville; a daughter, Amanda Baxter Carr and husband Curtis of Richmond, VA and five grandchil- dren, Elizabeth Baxter of Uvalda, GA; Ben Baxter of Cherryville; Caitlin Carr of Beirut, Lebanon; Baxter Carr of Washington, DC and Harrison Carr of Richmond, VA. CAROLYN SUE TONEY COOK Carolyn Sue Toney Cook, 82, of Fallston, passed away on Wednesday, April 22, 2020 at Atrium Health-Cleveland. Born in Cleveland County, NC on January 13, 1938, she was the daughter of the late Fields Barnette Toney and Maude Alice Gantt Toney McNeilly. She was retired from the Cleveland County School System and was a member of Fallston Baptist Church where she was the former choir director. Mrs. Cook was a member of Fallston Woman's Club and the Shelby Doll Club. Mrs. Cook was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, John Thomas Cook; a son, Daniel Barnette Cook and a brother, William Alexander Toney. Survivors include three daughters, Diane Owens and husband, Donald of Youngstown, Ohio, Toni Hurst and husband, Bobby of Jacksonville, FL and Suzi Davis and husband, Jimmy of Boiling Springs; three grand- children, Don Owens, Josh Hurst and Sierra Drewery and two great-grandchildren, Dakota Owens and Josiah Thomas Drewery. JESSE "LYMAN" PETERSON Jesse "Lyman" Peterson, 74, of 314 N Charleston Street, Blacksburg, SC, passed away on Wednesday, April 22nd, 2020, at Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home. Born in Gaffney, he was the husband of Terry Ables Peterson and the son of the late Luther and Ethel Mullinax Peterson. Mr. Peterson retired from Timken and was a member of Cherokee Falls Baptist Church. Lyman was the old- est of four living genera- tions of Petersons, he loved tractors, and was a life- time member of the Buffalo Lodge #202 AFM. In addition to his wife, Mr. Peterson is survived by a son, David Lee Peterson, of Gaffney; a daughter, Linda Gail Spry and husband, Jeff, of Pauline, SC; three sis- ters, Sybil Mullinax, Frannie Peterson, and Peggy Dover, all of Gaffney; four grand- children, Kayla Messer, Taylor Peterson Norris and husband, Jordan, Jordan Messer and fiance, Brooke, and Eric Peterson and fian- ce, Amber; and one great- grandson, Abel Peterson. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, RB and Romeo Peterson, two sisters, Ollie Peterson and Virgie Dover, and a daughter-in-law, Tammie Peterson (David's wife). IZENER "IKE" HUFFMAN KINGS MOUNTAIN: Izener "Ike" Huffman, 88, passed away Tuesday, April 22, 2020, at White Oak Manor in Shelby. He was born in Cleveland County on Nov. 25, 1931, to the late Augusta and Leona Hayes Huffman. After graduating from Boiling Springs High School, he worked on the railroad for Seaboard Coastline until he was drafted by the Army. He served in the military for over 20 years, serving in both the Korean and Vietnam War. He was awarded Purple Heart when wounded in Vietnam, and awarded a Bronze Star on two different occasions in Vietnam, and promoted to Chief Warrant Officer before retiring from the Army. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends. He was a member of Royster Ave. Church of God, and Woodman Life Insurance Society. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Betty Huffman; grandson, Grayson Huffman; sisters, Kathleen Hamrick and Pauline Mellon; brother, Luther, John and J.P. Huffman. He is survived by his loving wife, Lydia M. Huffman, of the home; daughters, Debra H. Jenkins and husband Douglas of Wolcottville, IN and Teresa H. Barbara was born February 24, 1940 in Rutherford County to the late John Henry West and Daisy Waters West. She was a graduate of Tri-High School, class of 1958. She worked a Parker-Hannifin for twenty years before retiring. Barbara was a dedicated and active member of Caroleen United Methodist Church. She was an avid Duke Basketball fan and enjoyed watching sports and working on puzzles. She will be missed dearly by all who knew her. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Merle Crawley. Those left to cherish her memory include her husband of fifty-seven years, Boyce Wilson, Jr.; son, Steven "Rusty" Wilson (Dawna) of Mooresboro; three grand- sons, Trevor Wilson, Tyler Wilson, Tripp Dysart and a great-grandchild, Phoenix Green. A private graveside service for the family will be con- ducted at Springhill Cemetery in Chesnee, SC. A memorial service to honor Barbara's life will be held on a later date.
