Fr. Frank Renner, Pastor Rev. Mark Wade, Deacon FIRST CHRISTIAN CHURCH 1400 E. Main Street Petersburg 812-354-6775 Regular services: Sunday school 9:30 a.m. and worship service at 10 :30 a.m. This Holy Week is the oddest Holy Week I have ev- er experienced. As we ap- proach Easter, many of us are aware that we are approach- ing what could be the deadli- est weeks of this pandemic. We have seen the numbers continue to climb, we must remember to fix our eyes on the one who is sovereign, and that he is the same yes- terday, today, and tomorrow. Without hope in one who is greater, these times will be crippling. In times like this we realize that God has put everything under the feet of Jesus, that everything is in subjection to him. Let us re- member that God is greater than this virus, he is great- er than our fear, he is great- er than all of it. As we approach Easter, we are sad that churches all across our country and many globally who will not gather corporately. But we are grate- ful that God has given us the creativity to utilize technol- ogy to meet. I invite you to look forward to Sunday as we put on a special service to di- rect our focus on the risen Christ. Keep up with us on Facebook, Petersburg First Christian Church. Or on our website petersburgfcc.net DJ Bryant, Pastor VINCENT CHRISTIAN CHURCH 8264 E. Easter Sunday This Sunday is commonly called Easter. This is the Day that the Lord Jesus Christ arose from the grave never to die again. This weekend, almost two thousand years ago, "Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, was buried, and that he was raised the third day according to the scriptures" (I Corinthi- ans 15:3-4). Fifty days later was the day of Pentecost. The first gospel sermon about Jesus of Naza- reth was preached; His life, death, burial, resurrection and exaltation. People were cut to the heart and, "cried out what shall we do? " Peter told them, "Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will re- ceive the gift of the Holy Spir- it" (Acts 2:38). Three thousand believed the message and were bap- tized. This is the birth of the church. Today the church awaits the return of Jesus WINSLOW CHRISTIAN CHURCH Corner of Lafayette and Walnut Pastor 812-753-3539 Sunday school 9:30 a.m.; morning worship 10 :30 a.m.; We extend a warm welcome to everyone. Rodney Fretwell, Sr. Pastor JESUS CHRIST OUR FIRM FOUNDATION 1415 N. Vincennes Ave. Petersburg 812-354-4424 or 812-582-0240 Services will be can- celled until further notice. In Numbers 32:26 -27, the descendants of Reu- ben, Gad, and half the tribe of Manasseh made a promise: "Our little ones, our wives, our flocks, and our livestock will be there in the cities of Gilead; but your servants will cross over, every man armed for war, before the Lord to bat- tle, just as my Lord says." The promise was made and kept in order to obtain the land on the east side of the Jordan. Since people don't al- ways grow in their relation- ship with God at the same rate as others, sometimes we must leave our family members "behind" when being obedient to God. The focus should be on the Lord first so we can better help relatives, friends and neighbors to grow closer to the Lord, trusting in Him for the care of their souls and bodies. Time spent in prayer, thanksgiving and the Word are part of being obedient. We must also offer His love to strangers and ene- mies in hope that they too may want a relationship with the Lord. A fter all, Je- sus left His throne to offer salvation to all who are will- ing, though He knew the suffering He'd be required to endure and the rejection He'd experience. Remember that we are at war as well, but our goal is to obtain as many souls for Christ as we can, and our plan of action is love. Denny Wiscaver, Pastor Kimberly Flynn, Report- er LIVING FAITH CHURCH INTERNATIONAL 601 S. 9th Street, Petersburg Phone: 812-809-4544 You are welcome to join us online Sundays at 10 a.m. and Wednesdays at 6:30 p.m. on Facebook live Living Faith Church International page. There will also be dai- ly Facebook live encourage- ment from the pastors and ministry leaders. This Wednesday, April 8 from 6:30 -8 p.m, there will be a special online service "The Elements of Passover." This special service will talk about Jesus' last supper be- fore His crucifixion and how each element pointed to Him as the Messiah. Everyone is welcome to join us on Face- book live. "As Paul ponders the sto- ry of redemption, he finds in the family unit a beauti- ful image of what salvation means. Those who enter in- to God's salvation are adopt- ed into God's family. Before we receive the gift of God's grace, we are homeless or- phans searching for some place to belong. But now all that has changed. The Fa- ther reaches out through His Son to all those orphaned by sin and death, and He brings them into His family. We are adopted into His forever fam- ily and fully enfranchised as His heirs. So, my broth- ers and sisters, you owe the flesh nothing. You do not need to live according to its ways, so abandon its oppres- sive regime" (Romans 8:12, Voice). "Then said Jesus unto his disciples; If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me" (Matthew 16:24). No Cross, No Crown While imprisoned in the Tower of London, in 1668, William Penn (founder of Pennsylvania) wrote his classic book, No Cross, No Crown, in which he stated: "Christ's cross is Christ's way to Christ's crown... the unmortified Christian and the heathen are of the same religion, and the dei- ty they truly worship is the god of this world. The no- tion that they may be chil- dren of God while in a state of disobedience to his holy commandments, and disci- ples of Jesus though they revolt from his cross is a false one." The cross was the climax of Jesus' min- istry. It was what He came for. We cannot bypass it. It is the necessary part of our salvation. We can be close to the cross but far from the blood. This Easter, take inven- tory within. Have you taken a trip to Calvary? Have your sins been washed away by the blood of the Lamb? Are you living in harmony with the light of the Word of God? Let's take up our crosses and follow the Sav- ior. Drug Problem I had a "drug" problem when I was a young person and teenager. I was "drug" to church on Sunday morning. I was "drug" to church on Sunday night. I was "drug" to church on Wednesday night. I was "drug" to Sunday school ev- ery week. I was "drug" to Vacation Bible school. I was "drug" to the family altar to read the Bible and pray. I was also "drug" to the wood- shed when I disobeyed my parents. Those "drug" are still in my veins, and they affect my behavior in every- thing I do and say, and think. They are stronger than co- caine, crack and heroin. If our children had this "drug" problem, America would cer- tainly be a better place. God Bless America. There's no shame in ad- mitting we require assis- tance in life, especially since we can't honestly de- ny our needs or hide them from our all-knowing God. At one time or another, we'll all fall, whether physically or emotionally. Knowing we're not alone can comfort us as we persevere. As our loving Father helps us, He empow- ers us to reach out to others in need, affirming they too aren't alone. How has someone helped you? How can you encourage others this week? "All-powerful God, thank you for reassuring us of Your constant presence as You help us and give us opportu- nities to reach out and help other"—Amen. Josh Sanders, Pastor Sherry Julian, Reporter
