Many people suppose that salvation is God's reward to those who do their best to live good lives. This is not so, for God's Word says of those who are saved: "Who hath saved us, and called us with an holy calling, not according to our works, but according to His own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began" (II Tim. 1:9). Referring to this "salvation which is in Christ Jesus," St. Paul says: "It is a faithful saying, for if we died with Him, we shall also live with Him" (II Tim. 2:10,11). In other words: The believer, viewing Cal- vary aright, has "died with Christ." Viewing the Cross, he has said: "This is not Christ's death. He was no sinner. He had no death to die. He is dying my death! " And so by faith he is "crucified with Christ" (Gal. 2:20). Assembly of God Baptist Baptist Continued in next column VERIFY WITH YOUR CHURCH Due to evolving changes, it is recommended that readers verify church services prior to attending. The following items are accurate as of Tuesday, March 17 at 10 a.m. Easter is a day that separates Christianity from all other religions. We must understand Easter in order to understand the Gospel. The unchanging truth is Christ was virgin born, spent 33 years on earth, died on a cross and was buried and rose from the dead on the third day. This is the real heart of the Chris- tian message. No other religious leader has ever risen from the dead. Only Jesus could say, "I am the way, the truth and the life." For the Christian faith this is the most im- portant day. If Jesus Christ was not resurrect- ed from the dead, we would have no hope of eternal life. On that first Easter morning 2,000 years ago, His followers found an empty tomb and later talked face to face with the res- urrected Christ. On Easter morning, people will celebrate and worship the living Christ outside the church building. In the midst of change there are still some absolutes. The resurrection of Christ stands as a historical fact. All attempts to discredit the resur- rection of Christ have failed. When we learn the facts, the bodily and unique resurrection of Christ cannot be denied. There have been many religious lead- ers but only one Christ has risen from the dead and ascended into heaven. There is much diversity and many denom- What is new with everyone? Are you keep- ing up with all the graphs and models the ex- perts are showing us? Have you been listen- ing to this professional and that doctor give their opinions about the curve and the peak? It is terrible about all the lives taken by this pandemic and there doesn't seem to be much help for those who become desperately ill with it. But there is some medicine which has seen used for other ailments being tried with a moderate amount of success but it is early with this treatment. I agree with the president that at this point it couldn't hurt to try it. The latest news on this is it has helped some of the patients to get better. We are still hearing time lines about oth- er countries being ahead of us, but some of them are smaller in territory and population, so it isn't really a fair assumption about being ahead or right on time wise. It seems like our stay-at-home order has helped some but we are being warned the next few weeks are go- ing to be disastrous with more and more pos- itive cases with more deaths. Steve Selby, Pastor Elaine Barrett, Reporter CROSSROADS BAPTIST CHURCH 2789 S. State Rd 57 Oakland City It was extremely odd preaching to an empty church on Palm Sunday. All across the country, churches are empty. The current COVID-19 cri- sis, social-distancing, stay- at-home orders, and constant fear has resulted in online services at most churches. At Crossroads, we have recorded our Sunday morning message for the past three weeks and posted on our website www. CHURCH Corner of Center and Sycamore All church services are cancelled until restrictions have been lifted concerning the Coronavirus. Remember everyone in prayer and our lost loved ones. In this Easter season, it is all summed up in the hymn Because He Lives. God sent His Son, they called him Jesus, He came to love, heal and forgive, He lived and died to by my par- don; An empty grave is there to prove my Savior lives. Be- cause He lives, I can face to- morrow; Because He lives, all fear is gone, Because I know He holds the future, And life is worth the living just because He lives. "He is not here; he has risen, just as He said, Come and see the place where he lay" (Matthew 28:6). Dwight Howe, Pastor Karri Brock, Reporter GR ACE G.B. CHURCH 1007 E. Each and everyone is invited. "His visage was marred more than any man" (Isa- iah 52:14). When Jesus Christ was on the Cross, His blood draining the life from His body, He knew what it was like to be alone and wracked with pain. But Jesus' pain was far more than just physical pain, for He was suffering God's judgment on all the sins of the ages, the greatest darkness of the soul ever known. As the divine Son of God, He was perfect and without sin. But all our sins were placed on Him, and He took the judgment and Hell we alone deserve. This coming Sunday, April 12, Easter will unfortunately not be any different. But, while the church may be empty this Sunday, Easter will happen! Perhaps in this time of the "empty church," we should find comfort in know- ing that a parallel exists this Sunday. Yes, while the church will be empty this Sunday, so is the tomb! Christ has risen! The current crisis will, once again, result in online ser- vices, but Easter cannot be stopped. Christ has risen and Easter services will occur all across the country. I pray that you will tune in on Sunday morning to our message. We would love for you to hear our Easter Sun- day message on www.cross- roadsoc.org. I will post a brief video on Facebook and provide a link for you to listen. If you do not have the capability of listening through the link on Facebook, or our website, then we will also be recording on a CD. If you would like to receive a CD, call the church at 812- 749 -3377, and leave a message with your name and address and we will get a CD to you. Happy Easter, everyone. I hope that you have a wonder- ful Sunday. Give all the glory to Jesus, and be sure to remind all your family and friends that Christ has risen.
