STUDENT CORNER STEM camp scholarships for girls Pace Community Action Agency, Inc, is once again empowering women for the workforce by providing a limited number of scholarships for girls to attend STEM (Science Technology Engineering, Math) Camps. According to the National Science Board, women constitute only 28 percent of workers in STEM occu- pations. The low percentage of women is unfortunate because STEM related careers are one of the fast- est-growing fields in the job industry with above aver- age pay. According to STEM Occupations: Past, Pres- ent, and Future by the US Bureaus of Labor Statistics, the average wage for STEM occupations is $ 87,570, nearly double the national average wage for non-STEM occupations. There are a variety of camps in our area that provide hands-on technology activities for youth. Pace is seek- ing to lower the wage disparity between males and fe- males by promoting the STEM field to young women. Our promotion is carried out through our scholarships to STEM camps. Scholarships are Pace's way of mak- ing sure that financial issues do not stop low-income females from attending STEM camps. Interested individuals should identify a camp of in- terest and complete the application on our website at www.pacecaa.org. Financial reimbursement may in- clude the cost of the camp and mileage to and from the camp. Apply as soon as possible, only a limited number of scholarships exist. A fter all applications are received individuals will be notified if they are ac- cepted as a scholarship recipient. Dr. Bertha Proctor, Pace CEO, comments on this program, "Pace is com- mitted to addressing causes and conditions of pover- ty. These scholarships Indiana Farm Bureau Now Accepting 2020 Student Scholarship Applications Indiana Farm Bureau is now accepting applications for its student scholarship program for the 2020 -2021 school year. Each year, INFB awards 13 scholarships to incoming or current college students who are pur- suing a career in agriculture. The scholarships offered are the Marion Stackhouse Memorial Scholarship, two Collegiate Farm Bureau Scholarships and 10 Carolyn Hegel Memorial Schol- arships. The scholarship money can be applied to tui- tion, housing, books and other educational expenses. The Marion Stackhouse Memorial Scholarship is a $1,000 scholarship named after the former INFB pres- ident, who served from 1976 to 1987. The scholarship is awarded to one student annually, based on their ed- ucational successes and career aspirations. Addition- ally, INFB awards 10 district scholarships. The Caro- lyn Hegel Memorial Scholarship is a $500 scholarship named after the long-time INFB second vice president, who served the organization for 26 years. Applicants for the Marion Stackhouse Memorial Scholarship and the Carolyn Hegel Memorial Scholar- ship must be incoming or current college students pur- suing a degree in agriculture and members of INFB. For existing Collegiate Farm Bureau members, IN- FB awards two $1,000 scholarships annually. Winners of these scholarships must be members of an INFB col- legiate chapter at Purdue University, Vincennes Uni- versity, Huntington University or Ancilla College. "Indiana Farm Bureau is pleased to help support young men and women pursuing a future in agricul- ture through our annual scholarship program," said Is- abella Chism, INFB's second vice president and chair of the women's leadership committee. "It's a great hon- or to grant these scholarships each year. If you know a student who meets the criteria, please encourage them to apply." To apply for a scholarship, visit INFB's scholarships and grants page. The deadline to apply is March 1. The application asks students to detail their educational successes and answer several questions about their future educational and career goals. Many county Farm Bureaus also offer annual schol- arships for students in their area. To learn more, vis- it www.infb.org and visit the Grants and Scholarships page under the Resources tab.
