C-2 Church Wednesday, Februar y 26, 2020 The Press-Dispatch CHURCH NOTE DEADLINE 10 A.M. EVERY TUESDAY FIRST CHRISTIAN CHURCH 1400 E. Main Street Petersburg 812-354-6775 Regular services: Sunday school 9:30 a.m. and worship service at 10 :30 a.m. I truly believe in the pow- er of moments. I know a lot of people who have experi- enced pure joy, and debilitat- ing fear, all in a single mo- ment. And one of the most VINCENT CHRISTIAN CHURCH 8264 E. State Rd. 56 Sunday morning wor- ship and the Lord's supper at 9:30 a.m.; Bible school at 10 :30 a.m.; evening wor- ship at 6:30 p.m., lesson on Practical Christianity. You are welcome to take part in these services. Some Quotes "Do good to a friend to keep him; to thine enemy to gain Him." "Two marks of a Chris- tian—giving and forgiving." "Getting even with a per- son means putting yourself on his level." Because He lives. John Manges, Minister powerful tools in the arse- nal of moments are words. You can lift someone up or tear someone down, all by the words you communi- cate in a single moment. I know people who during the most devastated times in their lives got by because of the compassion and en- couragement they felt by people close to them when they spoke the right words at the right time. A truth that I am learning at this season of my life is never underesti- mate the spirit filled truths, spoken by a spirit filled per- son. Over the course of this next week, think about the words you say, they have a great impact on the people around you. Reflect as well, what are some of the most encouraging words someone has ever said to you? Learn the simplistic language of encouragement because your words can mean the dif- ference for someone's walk with Jesus. On March 4 at 6 p.m. we launch a small group over the book "Don't Give Up by Kyle Idleman." If you are in- terested in joining, contact the church. As well we will be starting a sermon series over the same principles of walking though adversity and taking courage in a faith that challenges us to never give up. Hope to see you Sunday, March 1 at 10 :30 a.m. or March 4 at 6 p.m. DJ Bryant, Pastor Church of God TR AYLOR UNION CHURCH 4107 N. CR 1000 E. Feb. 27-March 1—Youth Convention with Evangelist Rev. Joey Pyle. "I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me" ( John 14:6). Sincerity is not a substi- tute for truth. In the story of Elijah on Mt. Carmel, the prophets of Baal were genu- inely sincere about their be- lief in Baal as a god. Howev- er, the existence of Baal was a lie and no amount of self torture would make him ex- ist. Many people today are very sincere about their ap- proach to God, believing that their good works will give them favor with God and en- trance into heaven. The truth is that there is no other way to gain entrance into heaven than a heart washed clean from sin in the blood of Je- sus. Any other way, no mat- ter how convincing it may sound, is false. Vincennes Ave. Petersburg 812-354-4424 or 812-582-0240 Sunday morning fellowship 10 a.m.; Church at 10 :30 a.m.; Bible studies: Tuesday night at 7:30 p.m. at Brian Eilert's house and Thursday night at 7:30 p.m. at church. In Exodus 23:30, God says "Little by little I will drive them out before you, until you have increased, and you inherit the land." This promise is being made before the Israelites have gotten anywhere close to their inherited ground and before they know much about the Lord. God wanted them to increase in size and reli- ance on Him before they got to their new home. He even tells them that the removal of the sinful will be gradual. These same truths apply to us. People used to use the expression "gaining ground" to represent a task complet- ed in a goal set. God's goal for our lives is to conform us to the image of Christ before we reach our inheritance of Heaven. This also happens by the Holy Spirit's removal of the sin in our lives little by little. We are to trust and wor- ship the Lord, in fellowship with others who can support our efforts by helping us to pray for strength to pass the tests put to us, applying the Word to our every day lives. Multiple tests may be nec- essary to gain ground for a single skill set. Don't give up, just pray harder and trust more. If you don't have a church of your own, feel free to join us. Verses to Ponder Let no one look down on [you because of] your youth, but be an example and set a pattern for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith, and in [moral] puri- ty." The moment you come to Christ, the Spirit of God brings the life of God into you and you begin to live. For the first time you be- gin to live with a capital "L." There's spring in your step, a joy in your soul and a peace in your heart. Life has taken on a new outlook. There's a whole new direction in your life, because now the Spirit of God has implanted within you the very life of God Him- self, who is eternal. And that means you will live as long as God lives. Too many Christians let themselves get bogged down by the cares and routines of daily living. Don't let that happen to you. Ask God to help you live each day with eternity in view. If at any time you don't have a church to attend, feel free to join us for services. I am sure you will leave be- ing blessed.
