Seven PC students get gold rating at state All seven Pike Central students competing in the Indiana State School Music Association State Vocal and Ensemble Contest received gold ratings. Milestone blood donation Angelica Tolen, phlebotomist for the Red Cross, prepares to 'unhook' Cindy Gaskins, of Petersburg, as she completes her blood donation on Tuesday afternoon. Cindy said with this donation, it made three gallons of blood that she had given during her lifetime. Tolen said that as of 2 p.m. Tuesday, the Red Cross had received 25 donations, and more were ex- pected. The Red Cross bus was parked at the library Tuesday. Environmental education workshops available online Indiana teachers, youth group leaders, home school parents, and others who want to educate children about the environment can now take a Project Learn- ing Tree (PLT) workshop, online, at their convenience. PLT, for which the Indi- ana DNR Division of Forest- ry is the state's sponsor, is an international, award-win- ning environmental educa- tion program for children in grades Pre-K through 12. PLT's activities have been developed by teachers, for teachers. Through PLT, students gain knowledge and develop critical think- ing skills while participat- ing in hands-on, multi-dis- ciplinary activities. PLT's well-organized activities teach to Reading, Writing, Social Studies, Math, as well as STEM, and are correlat- ed to both state and national academic standards. Participants in a PLT workshop will learn how to use the activities and re- ceive a digital copy of the PLT K-8 curriculum guide. Other materials and oppor- tunities will become avail- able upon completion of the course. Cost is $40 per person. Four professional growth points will be award- ed upon successful comple- tion of the course. An out- line of the course is includ- ed within the introductory pages.
